I used to love that jingle on the Sting radio commercials during wacko Larry Lujack's WLS morning show.
And have a complete technical staff before the Fire, and qualify for a playoff game before the Fire, we could go on all day...
We did ask this question a few years back (I think it was at the beginning of our "season(s) of discontent"). I went to as many Sting games as possible in 1982-1984 as a teenager. I then went to a bunch of indoor Sting games at the Stadium. I followed the Power a bit. Hell, I even went to one or two Chicago [Rosemont] Horizons' games when I was in high school.
Yes, but only with PBR, and Peter Wilt in full body paint. Oh, wait, that is a very, very, very bad idea.
I am reminded of "The Sinatra Group" skit where it is thus quoted, "I got stools older than you kid!" http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/the-sinatra-group/n10008
I didn't go to as many Sting games as you probably did, but I did go to see the Horizons a lot. Before the Power, I used to go to the Odeum to see the Chicago Shoccers.
Oh Don's comments are just so f*cking entertaining.... http://www.chicagonow.com/fire-conf...ndy-eleven-one-step-close-to-nasl-in-chicago/
Jorndt Field. Foster/Damen. Parking to benefit Amundsen HS. The field, as is, seats 2500-3000 (estimate) with loads of standing or Crew Stadium construction. This is where the Red Stars should play as well. However, it is committed to CHS scholastic football thu-fri-sat in the fall as well as scholastic soccer. Its a good surface. It could only be average with the HS action it gets in the fall. https://www.google.com/maps/place/A...0x880fd21fc135e133:0x56d4c3209cfb2283!6m1!1e1
He is just precious. For those of you who do not "dare click the link" "I certainly hope the Sting does not plant a sense of urgency. This whole thing is pie in the sky, thinking that they could have even half the success of the Fire is ridiculous. Any sense of urgency will evaporate when they're playing at a high school stadium." ..."even half the success of the Fire is ridiculous." If he means "Peter Wilt's Chicago Fire" I tend to agree. If he means "Andrew Hauptman's Chicago Fire" well, we all know how that is going (like the fact that we have a Red Stars and, now, Sting threads on the Chicago Fire Big Soccer Boards).
I have said much the same. I used to live three blocks from there. I think for relatively little money, it could be made into a pretty decent "old school" stadium. Parking is a bit tough and it is a ways away from the trains. Those group walks up Damen on Brown Line could be fun, though. That or UIC. It would require quite a bit of expansion (only seats 1,000 right now), but it could be renovated at little cost. UIC would probably be happy about it. Natural grass. Great site lines. Great view of downtown (hell, it is downtown, basically). And a certain Chicago Soccer Club used to have a relationship with them "back in the day." It would be a big f' you.
Just tell me where\when and I'm there with hard liquor and some light beers for those of you that don't drink.
I'll just save the beer you give me for when you run out of the hard stuff. I'm betting you'll run out... or maybe I'll just donate a bottle of Malört to you and let those who don't drink have the light beer.
Count me among the old timers: The Spurs and Mustangs were part of my teenage years and I moved back to Chicago in 1981 to work on my doctorate just in time to take my 2 young kids to Sting games every time I could scrape up the cash. My 38 year old daughter still talks about Stanley Sting with reverence and awe.
Fellow geezer here. Went to many Sting games at SF, Wrigley & Comiskey. Followed them indoors to the Stadium. Was an absolute blast! Lee Stern was a great owner.
