I don't want to offend any fans of Club San Luis, but why is it that the Quakes routinely scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to friendlies? I mean, it would be cool to have Club America, Chivas, or something like Atlas, Pachuca or Morelia because they have some dedicated fans around here. I don't know that I've ever heard any of my Mexican friends expressing their undying passion for San Luis. Please let me know if I'm wrong...
on a separate note, beerking, it must be tough living in Humboldt, or CA for that matter, where people tend to have a favorable view of the president. on the subject, hopefully a new SSS will improve this situation, although I'll miss the field surface at buck shaw which always looks perfect
Is this "Club San Luis", San Luis FC the team that finished second in the Mexican Primera last season? Or is it someone else?
Any particular reason why folks would seem to have a relatively positive view of a match against a mid-table EPL opponent, but a harshly negative view of a match against a mid-table Mexican Primera division opponent? And in terms of following, I'd guess that there would be more San Luis followers in the bay area than Swansea City, but just a guess. When the club has its own real stadium, I would expect that they'd bring in some bigger name clubs for friendlies.
I'm sure it's San Luis FC, which was named Club San Luis until a few years ago, though they finished 16th, not 2nd, in the last season.
People had a positive view of a mid-table EPL opponent? I seem to recall most people were bitching about Swansea too. And are we even sure "Club San Luis" is the San Luis FC from LigaMX? I don't recall them ever calling themselves that. But even if it is, and even if Swansea was getting more love the reason for it should be obvious. The EPL is generally seen as a better league than Liga MX. Granted any LigaMX team is better than some of the opponents the Quakes faced in 2008 and 9, but it's still pretty lame when the rest of the league is getting teams like Real Madrid to come kick their ass like in LA the other day.
Hah! Some folks will "bitch" about just about anything on this forum. The "rest of the league" isn't playing in a 10k capacity makeshift college stadium.
True after the face some people were happy about the Swansea match. But before it was announced I recall many people being vocally negative about it just as they will about San Luis (whichever San Luis it ends up being). And I agree, other than Tottenham who we had a special arrangement with, no top level teams are going to want to come play in our little bandbox. Which means to get a big opponent we need to rent a big stadium which in part defeats the purpose of having a big international friendly (which is to make the team extra money). Which begs the question why they even bother then. A mid week game, against an opponent most of our fan base doesn't care to see, that is just going to either tire out starters for a half, or be played with scrubs seems a waste of time and effort to me. Better to just not have a friendly than to play a sub par one.
Well, of course it would be better to play a marquee opponent like Tottenham, but I think the games are a good opportunity for Frank to get a good look at his reserve players against a quality opponent, and on the business side, the match creates some additional brand awareness.
Is this a joke? Isn't bonus game B for the playoffs? With so many points, aren't we going to make the playoffs even if we lose alot of games going forward? Because I thought if you get over 45 points or so, you're usually in the playoffs, right? Or are they going to make us pay for playoff tickets?
Tickets.com has changed the linked webpage. While it was up, the page listed the game as September 6th at 7:30 PM. Until the game is confirmed, we won't know for sure. That's why I posted as a question.
Would be more exciting with Cruz Azul, bringing their patented train horn with them. Surely would impress the Newhall Posse as they attempt to put their kids to bed at 8:30.
I hope they do play San Luis from Mexico. I don't think many people will be too happy. Mexicans bring a fun environment to games. Something were not used to, which is a bad thing. Section 109- salt lake vs SJ. Do you guys remember whistle boy? All the noise he made? And that was just 1 single guy. Imagine stands full of him. I like that atmosphere loud and crazy. But that's not the type of fans we have all around the stadium. I think many people will be uncomfortable at the game.
If they're fans of vuvuzelas like most Mexican team's fans then they won't be very welcome at Buck Shaw.
If it's these guys, looks as though they don't have anything booked for the second week of September. http://www.clubsanluis.com.mx/CSLN/uploads/image/Gaceta28JUL.jpg
I saw! It's the main item that appears when you google "San Luis" and "San Jose Earthquakes." Maybe he will make a guest appearance?
