From the Rocky Mountain News (Denver), Dec. 13 2003. If soccer were a stock and sports business columnist Dean Bonham were a broker, he'd have a "Buy" recommendation for MLS. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/business_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_82_2500584,00.html
These type of articles are so rare from folks that aren't soccer fans that it is always nice to read one. It is easy to be down on a league when it is in it's infancy nut look at the other big leagues here in their erly days and MLS is doing pretty good. Doesn't mean they will make it but they just might. Could be a niche or it could actually be pretty big.
Can I have some of what ever he,s smoking. That is why the TV ratings for MLSC was so high this year. I love this league and the game ,still we have along way to go.
The guy is a sports consultant based in Denver. What are the odds that he works for or wants to work for Kroenke and/or Anschutz?
EXACTLY. Some of the pessimism that I see here on BS gets VERY annoying after a while. Do you want to see the league succeed or not?!?!? Goddamn.....
None. He's been based in Denver for many years and has been critical of MLS in the past. I've done some work with him in the past on a PR campaign I worked on for a Fortune 500 company. He happens to be based in Denver, nothing more, nothing less. Of course, the conspiracy theorists around here won't see it that way. Sachin
I agree some of you boys need to take off that skirt, put down your latte, and stop shaving your phussy hairs. Get a nice pair of jeans borrow some nuts and go chop some wood!! You wont fee like such a beeeeeyatch doing that for a little while.
The thing I love most about too many BS posters is the unbreakable knowledge they have that MLS will never do better. Never. They look at today's attendance numbers, or today's TV ratings, and just assume that the league will never do better in those categories. It annoys the shite out of me. How many people, in 1982, would have predicted NASCAR to be where it is today? Hell, in 1992? How many people who actually stayed up to watch the tape delayed broadcasts of the NBA Finals in the early 1980's were thinking that "This basketball league will never take off"? How many people in the 1980's doubted that the NFL could overtake MLB as "America's pasttime"? Give it time, jackasses! We have an eight year old league with ten teams in a country where the majority of sports fans have minimal to no knowledge that it even exists. MLS has to train people on what soccer is. That will take time. Quit posting on here how "MLS will never crack the Big Four sports in America" or any other shite like that unless you have actually gone ten to twenty years into the future and seen MLS falter. There was a time when you could describe the NBA as a niche sport, and NHL too. Hell, even the NFL struggled in the early years. I'll take a veteran sports consultant saying that our league has a real shot at taking off in the future over some idiots at keyboards posting how MLS & soccer in America will NEVER get bigger then it is right now. Patience, people.
