Not too long ago someone posted a thread asking about the 1ra Reserves ... if every team had them or not.

Well, the issue of the Reserves is critical for the testing and maturing of youngsters, as well as gaining match fitness for players coming back from injury or that are not among the picked for 1ra games. Of course that Reserves play an important role in most developed football leagues ...

Knowing of all the match cancellations, and games that were never played, President Pompilio is taking the front seat in trying to end this. Boca has introduced to AFA a project which would revamp the Reserves games.

It basically asks for penalties to teams who don't present their Reserves to games. In the first offence, the team would get a $$ penalty. The 2nd time, the team would get 1 point reduction of their 1st team points in the offfical 1ra tournament. A third time would mean up to 3 points off. It also asks that for any game which is not played on date, their is an obligation to play the Reserves game within 72 hours.

We know that may times, coaches ask to cancel the Reserves games to preserve the field ... mostly on rainy days. With this project, the Reserve teams would have to play the game within 72 hours. It also adds to the interest of most fans attending the games, as many tend to arrive early to watch some of the youngsters that soon enuff could break into the 1st team.

I think it is a serious effort to revamp the Reserves games. This will only benefit each and every club, and will give youngsters the chance to start "feeling" what it means to be among the professional teams. Hopefully it is approved and the Reserves games become the norm, as oppossed to the circus of cancelled games we have seen lately.

The project was approved at AFA.

If a team doesn't present a team to play the Reserves tournament:
    - 1st time a $$ penalty
    - 2nd time 1 pt off the 1st team
    - 3rd time 3 pts off the 1st team

If the game has to be postponed and played within 72 hrs ... the latest to inform such a change is Friday at 18:00.

PS: Boca's first game will be played at Central next Tuesday.

penalties would not apply to Gimnasia (J) or to San Martin (SJ) so I guess it's a good idea becuse these teams should be left out as it would be too expensive for them to fly a reserve team in and out

Odd thing is that at still they bring reserve teams at times when they play in Buenos Aires and the surroundings. Also some clubs will have to use youth players to field a complete reserves team, the problem with those is that their youth don't play in the same leagues of the majority of the other clubs of the first division. Odd thing last season Godoy Cruz was the reserves champion.
