Excellent win. Certainly to be expected, at home against a limited opponent, but we are seeing glimpses of what this team can be under the guidance of el mellizo and with Carlitos playing up to his level. We get the feeling that Boca is not all there yet but is on its way to becoming a legitimate candidate for the Libertadores title.
Massive win for Boca at Racing. This was not a very good Boca, but Racing playing almost nothing in the 2nd half. Time and again, football proves itself funny to me. For about 20 minutes, I kept screaming at the screen, every 30 seconds or so, why in the hell were Perez and Lodeiro still in the game. At minute 80, I resigned myself that they wouldn't be taken out, and a funny thought crept into my mind that one of them would end up scoring after I bitched about him for so long. But good Lord was Perez awful. And Lodeiro was not much better. On the other hand, Pavon, Tevez, Gago, & Cubas were very good.
I missed this one. I guess I didn't miss much but a win is always good! Started out iffy, but now we are leaders.
The return leg against Cali tonight as Boca looks to secure first in their group. VS Wednesday Apr 20 19:30 (Hora Argentina) Stadium: La Bombonera Ref: Christian Ferreyra (Uruguay) TV: Fox Sports (ARG), Fox Deportes (USA) STREAM: http://www.foxsports.com/foxsportsgo/ (TV provider login required) VAMOS BOOOOOCA!!!!!! Likely lineup: Cali is already eliminated so hopefully this will be easy, but never count out a team with nothing to lose I guess. Racing will be playing at Bolivar so they have a somewhat difficult task, though a loss by Boca and a draw by them will put them on top in goal difference, as well as a win by Racing and a draw or loss by Boca of course.
Wow the field looks even worse tonight. Can't be helped with the weather I guess but if they build a new stadium like they're saying I hope it drains better or something.
Que cagada! Cagada tras cagada! Two goals by Cali, one off a clean header where two defenders just stood and watched, and the other off an idiotic turnover right off the kickoff. But then Tevez gets it back just seconds afterward. 2-2 now. Sheer insanity.
Boca travel to Asunción, Paraguay to kick off the first leg of the second round against Cerro Porteño. VS Thursday Apr 28 21:45 (Hora Argentina) Stadium: Estadio Defensores del Chaco Ref: Francisco Chacón (Mexico) TV: Fox Sports (ARG), Fox Soccer Plus (USA) STREAM: http://www.foxsoccer2go.com (subscription required) VAMOS BOOOOOCA!!!!!! Likely lineup: We'll see which Boca team shows up tonight. Would be nice to get off on the right foot and score some road goals!
Great win in Asuncion. Carlitos came through again! And what does a big team do when the ref calls a dubious penalty? Orion lo ataja, of course. VAMOS BOCA!!!
2 away goals in our back pocket is great. If we score even one in the home leg that really puts them in a hole.
I only managed to catch highlights fo the game, seemed a hard fought game. How do you think life under Schelotto is panning out so far?
I know El Vasco won a title, but it seemed like there was no plan, no concept of how to play. He was a players coach, a nice guy who basically let the inmates run the asylum. The team still has some issues (getting stupid red cards, giving up dumb penalties and free kicks) but it looks more and more that they are realizing how they want to play. El Mellizo knows what he wants from the team, and it looks like the players are buying into it.
When we have our best 11 out there we seem to be playing quite well. Most of the disappointing results recently have come with rotated squads which tells me that these depth guys aren't that good or just aren't getting it. As for El Vasco I think it's clear now he just rode off the coattails of Tevez and a weird league format. Could never beat the big teams.
Los XI vs. Cerro Porteño: Orion; Jara, Díaz, Insaurralde, Fabra; Meli, Erbes, Pérez; Pavón, Tevez y Carrizo.
