So they miss potentially all five matches in the month of June, you figure? Maybe only four if the US doesn't make the final?

Paging Mr. Mapp. Mr. Mapp, please pick up the nearest white courtesy phone. Mr. Mapp.

Small window in between, depending. Considering no more home games until June 18, we might not see those guys live again until after the All-Star Game.

Matches the 3 will likely miss if selected to both tournaments:

Saturday, 6/14 3:00 PM Fire at MetroStars
Wednesday, 6/18 7:30 PM Dallas Burn at Fire
Saturday, 6/21 7:00 PM Fire at Kansas City Wizards
Saturday, 6/28 3:00 PM MetroStars at Fire
Saturday, 7/12 7:30 PM DC United at Fire
Saturday, 7/19 7:30 PM New England Revolution at Fire
Saturday, 7/26 7:30 PM Kansas City Wizards at Fire

Maybe the 5th July match v SJ as well, if Arena decides to keep the team together.

Not exactly a shock, is it? We knew this going into the season.

At least we'll have adequate cover for them until they get back in August. Remember, all we have to do is be better than DCU and we're in the playoffs with *knock on wood* a full squad including our battle-tested rookies.

Do any other MLS teams lose three or more players to the Nats?

Damn, that's a pretty tough schedule.

At least our rookies will be learning from quality teams for the most part.

At least they're mostly home games.

We'll have that patented "SafePlay(TM) Home Field Advantage" working for us.

Correction, by Sunday, Howard will no longer be WITH the MetroStars, so they will have only lost 2. They'll get to pick up their new keeper much sooner than Howard would have been back anyway.

Interesting that Dallas is the only MLS team that doesn't lose a player to the Confed Cup.

DC United has 2 in Convey & Steward -- nobody else loses more than 1 -- although KC, NE or SJ could lose a 2nd if alternates are called in.

While it's a certainty that all 3 Fire players and both Metros players will be at both the Confed Cup and Gold Cup, it's not the case for the Crew players. McBride will most likely be available for the Gold Cup -- so the COULD lose 4 players at that point. But it wouldn't surprise me to see Cunningham left off that roster.

I saw on ussoccer.com that there's also a July 6th friendly with Paraguay in there (to be played at Crew Stadium).

    Three for sure (the 14th, 18th, & 21st).

If the team progresses, then maybe also the 28th.

The 7 June match with DC depends on Bruce and what his plans are for the New Zealand match on the 8th. (Although I think I've read that he will be using just those on the Confed cup roster.)

I like us playing Metrostars twice with a green keeper and without Mathis or Pope. And playing KC twice without Preki. And NE without Twellman--or Ralston if some midfielder gets hurt.

With Pause, Mapp and Gray, I think we've got the depth to handle this schedule without our national team players.
