I am sure there's been one, but I don't know where. I am a late comer to his music, but a friend of mine burned a copy of Uprising and I have been blown away. I wish I had known more about his music sooner (unfortunately I grew up in a close minded Texas town). So what are your favorite Bob Marley songs? Anyone ever fortunate to have seen him in concert? Fire away. Redemption Songs is my favorite tune so far.
I'm sure you've heard One Love (One Heart) but if you can find the ska version of it, it's pretty weird. I can see why he slowed it down to the current version we hear today.
Funny you should ask. I was listening to "Legend," one of his greatest hits albums on the way into work this morning. Beautiful sunny weather, top down, stereo cranked, and me singing along like some kind of lunatic. I have "Uprising," "Natty Dread," and "Exodus," which are all studio albums. Also, check out "One Love" and "Songs Of Freedom" which are both excellent box sets. I love reggae music.
I'm a big fan of the Rastaman Vibration album. If you get it, Exodus, Catch a Fire or Legend, get the deluxe 2CD editions. They are so worth it. They've got tons of extras, live songs, unreleased songs, remixes, etc. Marley is often discussed on the World Music Thread by the way.
Bob Marley is my all time favorite artist. I have about a dozen of his albums. I also have the Songs of Freedom box set. It's kind of expensive, but well worth the money if you're really into his music. Like someone else said, Exodus is an incredible album. Every single song on it is great. War is one of my favorite songs. If you're looking for a good Bob Marley DVD, I recommend Rebel Music. One reason I like his music is that he could sing about so many diverse topics. He could go from songs about social injustice, love, urban violence, religion, racism, and politics without missing a beat. I also have great respect for him, not just as a musical artist, but as a person. He was a revolutionary. Many of his songs were mechanisms to inform the uneducated people about the political issues of the day. He accomplished so much. He survived being shot in an assassination attempt and played a concert the next night, he was awarded the UN Medal of Peace, he was the first big star to tour and be popular in the third world, and he single-handedly provided food for thousands of destitute families in Kingston. It's a shame his life was cut so short.
My favourite track is 'Burnin &Lootin" , though myfavourite 'Marley Moment' is the live version of No Women , taken of the "Live at the Lycem". There's something about the way the crowds joins in on the chorus line that gets me evertime.
I rate that live album as my favorite of his. I know a lot of people think "Babylon By Bus" is the better live album, but there is an edge to the performances that I think is really great.
Legend has it, Bob told his band, if you make any mistakes, you're fired, because lots of wig wigs in the music industry would be attending this concert, like Eric Clapton, the same guy who stole Bob's song I shot the sheriff, this concert was recorded, and it is called LIVE. A young Sting was also at this concert, Sting claims his greatest musical influence was the prophet Robert Nesta Marley.
I bought this when it first came out and the version of "Buffalo Soldier" that is on my copy is radically different than what I've heard on other peoples copies. The one I have is more, um, "disco". Anyone else have this version?

Dyvel, most of his popular songs he redid several times, some he did in his Wailing Wailer days(Peter Tosh,Bunny Wailer, and Bob), that was mostly SKA, but as he got older and into Reggae, Rastafari and as his bands got better, he updated his joints,Bob has at least 5 different versions of One Love, i shot the Sheriff, Jammin, actually, both Legend Albums are updates, from originals he did.
I heard through the grapevine that Ziggy Marley and family just found some unreleased and never heard before origianl Bob Marley tracks, I was told they are fixing them up and are gonna release them, at the end of this year or early next year. Good news for the soldiers of Jah!
To me Live! is his best album, I know it's nothing original but I just love it. Not to mention it was recorded the day I was born... Not to nitpick, but his name was Nesta Robert Marley
No one's mentioned Talking Blues yet, which is the rerelease of a live studio show the Wailers did for a San Francisco radio station in 1974(?) after getting fired as the opening act for Sly and the Family Stone (IIRC). It's the full band before Tosh left and also has some alternate versions of Rastaman Chant and a few others. The in-studio material is about the funkiest stuff I've ever heard. Just a brilliant album.

please keep us in the know if you hear more - that is awesome! - bob is on the shortlist of artists who should simply fit into one category: life music I am gonna buy this on my way to work tomorrow - ive never actually heard that one and im takin your clue, thanks and i totally agree about "L@L" - if you close your eyes one can almost feel the sweat and tears and electricity favorite songs: is this love, could you be loved, 3 little birds & kaya (kaia - sp?) and i agree on exodus... oh who are we kidding? youd do well to have the worst bob album with ya
