    1) Gansler goes on to mention that Igor and Dario will be better because this is their first preseason with the team. As we asked CJ last year, if we're going to bring in players, shouldnt they be here before the season start? Seems to me Gansler is saying: "We're not in a hurry this year to fill our last roster spot...Igor and Dario are just getting into the swing of things because we didnt hurry and bring them in before the season started last year". Make up your mind Bob.

    2) No ************!? You have to play defense and then score goals?!?!?! Talk about insight.

regardless of quality of the coverage. Bergin, for whatever reason I can't fathom, has always had a disproportionate number of Wizards articles and stories.

That's actually the one article on the page that isn't by Bergin...

What do you mean Andy? Are you saying he has too much coverage or not enough coverage? Just curious.

I'm not saying either. I'm just saying that he seems to cover the Wizards more than other teams. There can never be too much Wizards coverage. :D

Hmm, really? I thought he always had more Chicago coverage than any other team. I don't recall having seen a lot of Wizards stuff before. I'm just glad that there is coverage of MLS out there, regardless of where it comes from and who it's covering.

It is doubtful at best that anyone the Wizards bring in now would be key players. That wasn't the case for Igor and Dario. Both of them started right away I believe because everyone knows we were hurting at forward last year. I doubt we have the cap space to find anyone that would be good enough to come in and have to immediately contribute.

I know MLS salaries are a mystery, but seriously what about Dante Washington? If Wolff is out with the National team and Fabrro doesnt pick it up, Dante would be a good person to have on the roster.

I realized when I made the comments about signing people before the season that last year we needed them ASAP, and this year we dont. But with such small rosters, every person on the squad has to be prepared to produce. The sooner they are on the team, the more likely they are ready. Not to mention that with such small rosters its dumb to not have a full roster.

Dang Ben, did someone go in your corn flakes or something?!? :p You are normally positive about everything and here we get 2 dissents in one day...

Gansler has zero incentive to say anything we don't already know. I'd rather KC snuck up on the league to the degree thay can. I did think it was interesting that he made a point of mentioning "no hurry" on the roster spot. To me this states clearly that KC has found people but has not found a "no brainer" to jump on yet. That might be reading into it a bit much, but whatever, that's what these forums are for.

I'm all for picking up Dante also. Why not? He can score, he can be trade bait to whoever can't. Bottom line is: more options. At the very least maybe DW in camp would be the required pressure on Fabbro so he would actually produce a work rate. Alex Bunbury might still be on this team if his knee didn't implode. Is DW's game radically different form Bunbury's? Not in my mind. Think about it, Wolff working off of a guy with size, will, and touch...

There has to be something in the works for this not to be a done deal. KC must be waiting on the season to start so that lost revenue (for the player) drives asking prices down or something similar. That would be typical of a Hunt Sports org. move.

I'll be surprised if Dante isn't picked up quickly.

    Teams thin at forward:
San Jose, Chicago, Even LA has a weak(er) #2 striker. The first of these teams or any other that has a starter go down in the first three or four games will poach him immediately. It happens every year that some key player, (usually offensive) is lost early for most of the season. Teams will be looking for insurance after week four as injuries mount and chemistry/expectations fall out.

We don't have any SI slots left so based on what's out on the "MLS Free Agent Market" Dante is in a class of his own. Think who else is out there for hire at any position. McKeown? Possibly A-Leaguers like Jamar Beasley or Ted Chronopolous... Maybe some draftee that's been cut.

I'd like to think we'd make a move for him as I've always been impressed with him when I've seen him play. He seems to add fire and work ethic to his teammates (something Preki doesn't do by example, and Tony is too far back to influence anyone but the backline.)

I'd be willing to give up Brown or Fabbro for Dante'. I think Arnaud is worth holding on to and of course Igor and Josh are starters. Armstrong is a better Fwd/Mid utility guy than Brown except for Brown's propensity to find sitters. However, Dante is a true forward and is better than Brown at that position and Armstrong is better than Brown at Midfield so he's expendable in this scenario. The jury is still out on Fabbro for me but he needs to sharpen up soon. I've been waiting on Brown for years now.

I suspect he'll wind up in San Jose. DeRosario apparently just blew out his knew while coming back from a broken foot. He's gone for the season.

If you have ever been to a camp or coaching seminar with Bob Gansler or any other Coach, they will all tell you defense is the most important aspect of the game. I went to a seminar for 3 days that Gansler presented at and he reiterated several times you play defense so you can play offense. I believe he also admitted that in the past they have been strong defensively but haven't always been the strongest transitioning from Defense to Offense. I think that will change this year with the cast we have playing. I would much rather have a defensive team anyday than an offensive team that plays lousy defense. I am a huge Chiefs fan, but despite the great offense we had the past two years, I would much rather have Marty Shottenheimer back because they played great defense and that is what keeps you in games and 9 out of 10 times you will be succesfull that way. I was really a luke warm supporter of Ganslers until I went to this seminar for 3 days with him. I am a great supporter now because I understand a little more where he is coming from.

But if you have a good offense that can keep you in the game, it makes the games more exciting. Their was 2 games the whole season with the cheifs that we couldn't have won, of course if it weren't for the defense, they would have won those games.

Exactly! Like Bob says, you have to have offense AND defense to win championships. :)
