What a shame that a great young player like Ricardo has to show how classless he was after saturdays game.

His quote aimed at SCP defender Pablo Contreras shows how little class and how much of a sore loser he is.

His attack in the tunnel after the game, again no class.

Jaimie Pacheco, who is a decent coach showed zero class after the game, giving SCP no credit for the win.

Maybe he should tell his players to play and not butcher the opposing team.

Boavista has lost all of my respect that they had earned as they won the Liga 2 years ago.

Talk about class. Doesn't JVP still play on your team? Wasn't he the guy that embarrassed our whole country in the WC this past year.

I won't look at Ricardo any different. He is still a great goalkeeper. Things happen in the heat of the moment. Sometimes I get mad at some of these players but what can you do. Look at Players Like Costa, Costinha, Eder and Argel two weeks ago and look at our National team at Euro. These guys are Portuguese and we all know how are tempers can be.

    Benfica - 17 pts.
    Sporting - 16 pts.

    I'll leave it at that.

You are calling them "O Pasado". I'm talking about the present.

Besides, it doesn't take a Benfica fan to realize that JVP did disgrace the Seleccao, and was the primary factor in them getting knocked out. A Sporting fan can see that as well. Remember, he played for Benfica too.

My new nickname for Benfica comes from being sick of hearing them being called "O GLORIOSO" when they haven't done anything in over 8 years.
They are living in the past.

This year might be different, but we will see.
For now it stays as "O PASADO"

And talking about embarrassment, Benfica not making it to the last 4 European competitions is embarrassing to both themselves and Portugal.

The primary factor in them getting knocked out. Are you nuts? I think what JVP was a disgrace but if you are going to blame that for the World Cup you definitly didn't watch the games. It's easy to blame Sporting players for the World cup because there was so many of them. I would blame a Benfica player but they were non factors since their was barely any of them. We lost that World Cup before it even began. JVP yellow was the least of Portugals worries. And if you ask me the way things are going it doesn't look good. The federation is taking euro a little to lightly. Id hate for us to be embaresed out their while we are hosting it.

Only if all players in the world had the class of the Erwin Platini Sanchez, would we all get along.

Plain and simple: JVP and Beto got sent off against Korea. Not yellows, sent off. I think we would have gotten a point against them had we played 11 v. 11, since those that remained on the pitch played well (Figo, Rui Costa, etc.). With a point, they would have been through. Obviously, there were other factors (Oliveira not having a clue, the whole team playing poorly against the US, etc.), but when it came down to it, playing 9 v. 11 against Korea did us in at the end. Obviously, Sporting has been the best team in the Liga over the last several years. But I don't talk about Eusebio, or the glory days of a decade or two ago. Right now, Benfica is the better team.

And speaking of disgraceful, what about your boy Jardel's dive against Gil Vicente. Pure class. Of course, he couldn't put away the penalty, so it was all for naught.

What are you talking about? They called that penalty for the hold on Ronaldo if I'm not mistaken. And if you ask me that was a better call than the offsides on the JVP goal. But the difference between us and you is that sporting fans aren't whining because deep down we all know we didn't play well. If that was Benfica all I'd hear is crying. And as for the WC I hate to bring up the past but the team only played well against Korea with their backs up against the wall. Porto still beat Benfica a man down. Their are ways to win a man down our coaching wasn't there. How many goals did figo have or Conceicao.Pauleta had some but they were all in one game that was the problem. Portugal lost the World Cup because they played like crap nothing else.

Ricardo may be joining Benfica by January, according to this article. Reportedly, negotiations between the two clubs have begun. Benfica also has Quim in its sights if this should fall through.

It's amazing how the media has avoided going over-board on JVP and Beto for embarrasing Portugal in the World Cup. Had they played for Porto and not SCP or SLB then it would be a national embarrasment.

Ricardo sucks. End of story. Plays great against weak teams. Love his performances against Porto and Sporting and Benfica. Top goalie!!!! (sarcasm)

    Biggyv,

You are way off. It was Ronaldo which was dragged down and it was not a dive at all. If you don't call that a penalty, then I don't know what a penalty is.
In regards to Jardel, you are correct, he made a pass to the goalie on that penalty attempt.

Now going back to the WC2002, Beto was a forced yellow card. That should never had been a yellow card at all. JVP should had kept his head, but lost it.
By the way, did you see how they scored the goal. Sergio Conceicao was played with as he goes to the Korean player, that Korean player chips it over his head and puts it in between Baia's legs. Again between Baia's legs.

And let's not bring up the US game. That is where this whole World Cup went down hill.

By the way, Beto was 2 yellows and not a direct Red.

I'll blame Beto and JVP for embarassing us against Korea if you blame Baia for embarassing us against USA. I think Ricardo would of done a lot better in that situation than Baia. Seeing Ricardo last year making some big saves for the seleccao was enough to sell me. Baia was put in because of the rep he carries in Portugal (which is greatly deserved) but he should not be the #1 anymore. Not with guys like Quim and Ricardo there. How does a guy who had recently came of an injurie and hadn't had a cap in quite a while get the #1 role at the WC? It was plain stupid!

Agreed there. Baia was crap against the USA. I think Oliveira made him the #1 because of loyalty from their days with Porto.

    Guys,

Can we put this WC2002 in the past.
Whatever happened there and who ever was at fault, made us all look bad.
So not to bring back bad memories, let's move on to bigger and better things.

    Thank you BIGGYV!!!

    Yes like Ero2004 and WC2006.

One thing with me, I don't look to blame players on the Seleccao depending on which team they come from.
Players on the Seleccao should be looked at as OUR players no matter what team they come from.

So let's try to keep that in mind when supporting OUR SELECCAO.

    VIVA PORTUGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should know. Didn't you have to wait almost your entire lifetime for a championship from Sporting?

Thats romantic, but it's also a lie. The moment any player does anything bad for the seleccao we are lightning quick to blame player X for being part of club X. It's part of being Portuguese.
