Oh, come on. They act like they're not the 52nd state. The only reason we haven't commandeered them and mexico yet is cause adding two stars would fuck up the symmetry on the flag.
Seriously though. I would never boo the SSB, but if they insisted on playing this in Montreal when I am at a game, I would let loose. It's no longer about "respecting the anthem" and becomes political and downright quasi-religious with the whole "God Bless" thing. It should be "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Boooooooooooooooooo.
Doesn't O! Canada mention God? I don't boo that when I hear it. Stupid to require GBA to be sung in Canada. But this is Major League Baseball, dumb hasn't stopped them before, why should this be any different.
"God keep our land, glorious and free." "God bless America." Not quite the same message, but reply if you think I'm having double standards.
Obie sums it up. That is exactly what i said when i saw the title of the thread. I just can't stop shaking my head.
They shouldn't be singing god bless America IN AMERICA. I remember when sports used to be about sports. And going to a game was a fun time. Now, in EVERY sport its turned out to be some kind of "patriotic" masturbation.
I think it's close enough, but GBA isn't the anthem so they shouldn't be singing it in Canada during the 7th inning stretch so it's a moot point.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing last night. I think it's ridiculous to play it during the 7th inning anywhere, but in Canada, in a country that has refused to follow the US in war, well... that's just such a Selig! Selig: noun, a who-the-fuçk-thought-this-was-a-good-idea kind of thing
Re: Re: Blus Jays forced by MLB to play 'God Bless America' during 7th Inning Stretch Seriously, the Canucks should re-word their anthem to combine the two songs: "God bless America, for keeping our land glorious and free, otherwise we'd all be speaking Chinese..."
Re: Re: Re: Blus Jays forced by MLB to play 'God Bless America' during 7th Inning Stretch Bump. Cuz its funny. Its funny cuz its true...
Substitute "God Bless America" for "The Maple Leaf Forever". Or would that be too much for some certain Canadians?
