...via their facebook and website. Never have I seen them do this before. Maybe they are really hard up for some extra money during the offseason(?) and/or are looking for some quality defenders and keepers...
And never have I seen a team charge $100 before. It still looks like you have to apply and they have to accept you. I'm thinking about doing it for fun, but I don't know if they'll let a 38 year old rookie try out.
Same cost as the Chicago Soul and $25.00 less than the Wings, both of which had their open tryouts earlier this Summer.
Honestly, who gives a rats ass. The way the USL is "running things" and growing this sport... screw em When you cannot secure Harrisburg and Dallas, Philly hates you and will never come back.. it's not worth it. I hope they fold and the few decent teams merge with the stronger PASL teams and form 1 league... Harrisburg Dallas Tucson Vegas Omaha You "LOOSE" (for u card man) those 5 but somehow manage to secure CHICAGO V 9.0 WOW Economides - you are a complete joke. Hey, but at least you get paid a nice salary to "run" the MISL from sunny Tampa, Fl. while asking for a $125,000 franchise fee to join your top notch league Sorry guys- but the USL has done jack squat to improve indoor soccer. I believe that was the last straw for Hale and Co- to give control to the USL and let them sink or swim. They are going to reach the bottom of the lake in St Pete faster than you can say Chicago version 9.0 has left the building
There's going to be two or three more versions of the MISL or another top indoor league before the Blast get a new arena (if they get one at all).
this is a great money maker for the blast at $100 a pop per player to try out and i bet the only offer 1 a spot on the roster
1 would be a lot. When I tried out for the Kixx Don D'Ambra said they had never signed ANYONE from their open tryouts.
There is no securing Harrisburg. As Grimaldi said himself in his press release their entire budget for the year is $200k. For the WHOLE operation. Everything. That is less than the payroll for front office for most MISL teams. Two different deals. Just cause somebody has a logo and a team, doesn't make them comparable. Philly - More specifically Jeffery Rotwitt. Hasn't played a game in 2 years. If he plans on playing this year, he might want to get started selling tickets soon. It's August 10th. Nationally through Media and I know here in KC personally, the view is that the USL has done tons to grow the game.
Agreed. Open tryouts are exactly that. Open to anybody. Very rarely does a team even take a player or two to camp from Open Tryouts, let alone give them a contract offer. If your a new team, then open tryouts are more beneficial compared to an established team. It's not a huge money maker. $100/person. IF they have 50 guys show up that $5,000. That's 1 months salary for a top MISL Level player.
SpinMan- WTF? Tons to grow the indoor game? How They helped support the 1 game in KC that drew 8,000 (because of the Convention) that's it PERIOD. End of Story (LES) Obviously the guys that have been around the game quite some time want nothing to do with it anymore, or wanted to pass the buck... Hale, Krause (Milwaukee) Hantz (Detroit) Rotwitt (Philly) New Harrisburg Owners, Dallas, Vegas etc... on and on USL/MISL model is a recipe for FAILURE. Unless you SELL 5,000 tickets PER GAME... which is barely what Baltimore has done (with a 30 year history I may add) you CANNOT succeed KC is doing it now with their huge corporate sponsorship they received from the bank They also came in at $250,000 for their "franchise" fee wonder if they've even started to break even yet...
Agree to disagree. Comets are doing just fine. I would venture to say they are the model franchise on how to start a indoor soccer franchise in this business environment and do it right and succeed for many years. I don't understand what you mean about Hantz, Krause or Rotwitt passing on the USL. I don't mean to be negative, but your probably not aware of everything. USL used to be majority owned by Nike. Nike wanted nothing to do with the indoor game. So those owners you listed above, didn't pass on the USL in the past. It wasn't an option.
Also, just a little fact quoting. The bank sponsorship the Comets have isn't even thier largest sponsor. I don't think it's top 5. And actually the Comets are behind, Milwaukee, Blast AND the Lancers when comes to total sponsorship income. Again, I'm not being negative. Just stating facts.
Thanks for the info I know Milwaukee has done very well with corporate sponsorships in the past... but if they are doing so well why does Lindenburg want to sell? and why did Charlie K want out? He could have passed the team down to kids/grandkids if it was really a thriving operation Rochester- don't know. They draw well with the tons of comped tickets, kids free etc... and they do have about 18 owners to share the losses. Baltimore is the same.. but with Hale out as CEO of the bank and not much influence anymore... their sponsorships will take a huge dive. I'm just disgusted how arrogant the USL is when it comes to growing the game by adding quality franchises Quote " they play in garages and not a professional league" that came from a senior employee at the USL
Just because you put a franchise in a city that has had an indoor team before does not mean it is a quality franchise. Until Dallas, Harrisburg etc., play games and have respectable attendances (i'd settle for 1,500) you cannot call them quality franchises. They could turn out to be Omaha or Orlando. A quality franchise is made by the owners, staff and the fan base.
If I may answer your questions individually. 1. Lindeberg doesn't want to sell. He wants additional investors. He loves the Wave and being the owner of a professional team. He also wants way, way, way bigger crowds in the Cell. Another owner could help that with ideas and connections. 2. Krause did pass it to his son, along with the Wave and other family money----it got ran in the ground. You know what they say about 2nd generation car dealers? Same applies here. 3.Rochester did an outstanding job year 1. 2nd highest attendance of all indoor teams. They will do better this year on the ticket revenue, so that it catches up with sponsorships. 4. Ed Hale will do just fine and so will the Blast. Great owner, great franchise. Community leader that isn't losing any sponsor dollars anytime soon. 5. If you don't want to call the Arizona Storm/Phoenix Monsoon garage league. Then I don't know what to tell you. Changed team name and everything in the middle of the season, that's a joke. Kansas team had Kwik Goal metal piping as their goal crossbars for their "Exhibition" match cause they couldn't afford goals. That same arena (Expo Center) said they were a joke and wouldn't allow them to play there, so they had to play in a local indoor facility. -Don't get me started on the Detroit Waza hippy smoking weed team, show up to play when you want team. Those 3 examples are very garage league in addition to Tacoma. -Sockers, Lightning, Kings and to a certain extent the Bolts are not in the same class as those other teams. But unfortunately a garage league is something when you have half assed team's, facility, budget, owners and players. Which at the moment is the pasl. FIFA - Hope your enjoying all the conversation. And I hope your not thinking I'm negative. I want to see 20 teams as much as you do. And I find it crazy that the Sockers and Sidekicks aren't in the MISL. The other teams I have a feeling arent going to be around for long.
The Blast does seem to have more money to throw around but if a lot of those players are making more than $5,000 a month then Blast budget is obviously larger than most and how many players have the Blast re-signed at that amount this year??
From what i was told the blast are loosing a lot of players this year as far as i know Pay healy is the only one signed , and they picked up a new player from the charlston battery if i had to guess they would resign at least 5 players Millwood , Ferdinand , Neto , Deroux , Deisl , As for Goal keepers who knows the last is was told Akira Fitzgerald wants to continue to play out door soccer so he may or may not come back
You stole the words right out of my mouth. One example would be the Mass. Twisters who moved from the AISL (much along the same lines as the PASL) to the NISL. I feel as if they completely had no idea what they were getting in to as they dominated the AISL and thought it would be a cinch to do well in the NISL. I think they actually drew more people in when they played in the AISL and won most of the games and I don't think they nor their fan base knew what the NISL was about.
