I was just reading Connoly's article on USA/Mexico.

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=266400&cc=5901

In it he says that Blanco was the only Mexican player who stayed on the field after the game to exchange jerseys. I hadn't previously realized this. Now I have two questions about this.

    1. Who would have predicted that out of all the El Tri's players bad boy Cuauhtemoc would be the only one to do the traditional jersey exhange? Do any of you guys know why he stayed while his team mates left?

    2. Do you know who he exhanged with?

I allways hear about the negativity of Mexican players that didnt want to trade jerseys, but i must ask which players refused to exchange ?!?! Or did US fans expect the Mexican players to be the ones to want to trade ? And being how we are HATED rivals why should they exchange jerseys in the first place ??

    :) :)

Blanco exchanged jerseys with Landon Donovan - I believe.

IIRC, Blanco came back out of the tunnel to switch jerseys when he was told Landon was waiting to exchange.

And that the other Mexico players hustled into the tunnel to avoid being asked to exchange.

Who said we are "hated rivals"? I believe the rivalry is fierce - but I don't believe that the US has ever - team-wide, refused to exchange jerseys. I mean, Reyna didn't exchange jerseys with Germany, but that's because he thought it might be his last WC game.

the reason why its significant is that its the only world cup game that i've ever seen that players didnt exchange jerseys. england and argentina traded jerseys didnt they? thats a much more heated rivalry. i see this as meaning the mexicans went out of there way to be bad sports, they didnt represent their nation very well. sad really.

But much to the world's collective surprise this summer, the young Americans showed the world a thing or two about the state of the sport in the United States, advancing in this year's World Cup to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual runner-up Germany. Included in Team USA's incredible run was a victory over the highly touted, heavily favored Portugal, a team many thought would compete until the tournament's end. With two of the best players in the world in Luis Figo and Rui Costa, it was a given that our boys would fall. Until, that is, America led the vaunted Portuguese 3-0 before even a half-hour had eclipsed. At the end of ninety minutes, the Americans stunned Portugal--and the world--winning 3-2.

"Oh man, they didn't like us," recalls Beasley with a little swagger in his voice. "They walked off the field. We tried to exchange jerseys, do the friendly thing, but they just walked off. They weren't too happy with their performance, and they weren't too happy about losing to Americans. But that's how it goes--they got sour. But I didn't really care, I was too busy celebrating. And I didn't really care about getting anybody's jersey anyway."

I guess you didn't watch the Portugal game.

I love this rivalry. I think it ranks with best in the world. There is so much real passion, both teams and their supporters want to beat the other so badly. I think it's great. Best of luck to you all tomorrow night. I can't wait.

Gentlemen (and ladies if present), the rivalry crap and name-calling can be taken to the Wolrd Rivalries board.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=160

Trolling and name-calling aren't the point in this board. If non-Tri fans want to come in and ask questions and discuss, great. If you want to come in here to start crap, your posts will be binned and you will be warned, and if you do it repeatedly, you will be carded.

    Play nice.
