just about the worst possible scenario is that he isn't healthy for the matches that Mane will be missing. it's a bit hard to imagine that he would be needed in the last 10 minutes, but, theoretically, you're on point...i think...

Manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Philippe Coutinho is "fit enough" to be included in Liverpool's squad to play Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

The Brazilian forward trained again on Monday, having returned last week for the first time since suffering an ankle injury against Sunderland in November.

Klopp also said it is "pretty likely" goalkeeper Loris Karius will start against Southampton.

As well as positive news on Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given an injury update on more first team players.

"Joel (Matip) took first steps in team training this morning. (James) Milner no problem anymore. Hendo (Jordan Henderson) is in a good way," the German said.

"It's all good. No new injuries and all the rest are on their way back."

Matip has been out with an ankle ligament problem since December 11, while Milner and Henderson have had calf and heel injuries respectively.

I saw this on the TV news the other day - a fascinating way to help people regain lower-body strength by using anti-gravity technology to reduce the strain on the lower limbs while in physio. If these machines aren't in place in football clubs now, they should be and will be soon.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...-surgery-exercise-hip-physiotherapy-1.3994587

Anti-gravity treadmill has physio patients 'walking on air'

The AlterG is an anti-gravity treadmill being used for physiotherapy at the University of Alberta

When April McDonald takes to the treadmill at the University of Alberta's physiotherapy clinic, she feels like she's walking on air.

"It's the closest thing to walking on the moon that I'm ever going to get," McDonald said, while demonstrating an anti-gravity treadmill, known as the AlterG, at the University of Alberta.

McDonald, 34, had both of her arthritic hips replaced in August 2016.

"It allows me to walk without my waddle," she said, "and it allows my muscles to get stronger because they don't have to worry about my weight."

Unveiled at a news conference Wednesday, the AlterG looks like a regular treadmill swathed in a vacuum-sealed plastic membrane.

To use it, McDonald has to put on a pair of neoprene shorts and zipper herself into the machine. The membrane is then pumped full of air and pressurized.

The AlterG, one of only two in Edmonton, lifts five to 80 per cent of bodyweight and allows patients to walk, or run as fast as 15 km/h.

It was added to the physiotherapy clinic in late December.

In the past, treatment for patients like McDonald involved strapping them into a harness-and-pulley system, said clinic co-ordinator Kim Dao, a U of A professor in physical therapy and rehabilitation.

"It's the closest thing to walking on the moon that I'm ever going to get," says April McDonald. (CBC)

"This lifts the patient's bodyweight from inside the treadmill," she said. "It makes it easier for them to go from walking to running."

The treadmill lessens the pain a patient like McDonald might experience while exercising, said Dao.

"Studies have shown that even long term, after any type of injury, the muscles are more likely to be injured again if they're not properly taken care of. So, the more strengthening she does on a life-long basis the better off she's going to be long term."

McDonald is part of The Young Hip Program at the U of A Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.

The AlterG treadmill makes the one-hour drive from McDonald's home near Stony Plain for twice-a-week appointments well worth it, she said.

It helps her recovery and makes it fun to exercise.

"You can tippy-toe, you can feel like the roadrunner where you can run your legs in place and not touch," said McDonald. "It is very cool."

    So 20th century ..... sigh ....

With this device the physiology can set the amount of pressure the ailing limb / joint needs to handle.

And weightlessness and bouyancy aren't the same thing.

we have the quantity but lack quality in numbers. we barely have a solid/quality 2nd-choice for each position.

Klopp on Sturridge: "No, he's not training. He was really ill. Now he has a strain in his hip muscle from a rehab session."

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Fussballer was right - we should have sold him in January and looked to find a striker then. Now this summer we will have to sell him for 1/2 the value as he's continued to remind people he's a crock

Yup, I should have specified quality f*cking players. We really don't have a quality/second choice for every position, and I'd say we don't even have a fully adequate first XI at this point - striker; CB; keeper; etc.

It's too bad, the guy has been a real talent but some combination of being a physical wreck and a head case has made him surplus to requirements. Time to move on.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson faces a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Burnley at Anfield.

The Reds midfielder missed training once again at Melwood on Wednesday due to the foot injury which has kept him out of the past two matches.

Manager Jurgen Klopp hasn’t given up on Henderson being available for the visit of the Clarets but the clock is ticking. If Henderson misses out then Emre Can will continue in the holding midfield role.

Daniel Sturridge was another absentee as Klopp put his players through their paces at Melwood. The Liverpool striker damaged his hip last week during a rehab session as he looked to step up his recovery following a virus.

Sturridge hasn’t featured in Liverpool’s last three matches and has only started once in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

Well this sounds promising ... fingers crossed !!

Sadio Mane has tried to allay fears of a serious injury after telling reporters at Anfield he was ‘okay’ before leaving the stadium.

The Liverpool star was forced off the pitch in the second half after catching his foot challenging for the ball.

Mane tried to walk off the pitch, but collapsed on the touchline before being helped down the tunnel.

The winger’s pain was a worrying site for Liverpool fans and Jurgen Klopp with the influential Adam Lallana already sidelined for a month.

Mane scored the opener in the 3-1 win over Everton and Klopp admitted afterwards the injury did not look good.

But Mane walked through the mixed zone after the game without the help of crutches or a brace on his knee.

Well, that leg ought to have been immobilised. It's reportedly swelling and a second scan is needed.

All the rags are running with speculation since Klopp said "it doesn't look good." I'll wait for the final scan before I smash in the panic button (but my gut says it's bad).
