This is typical. Either potential buyers take him seriously and Blackburn keeps Friedel, or the price gets jacked up and Blackburn makes a lot of money.
The first step in negotiations is to say there will be no negotiating. I imagine there is a threshold that Blackburn already have agreed upon among themselves; the proceeds from the sales of Duff and Friedel could go a long way.
How is Blackburn doing, are they strugling or can they buy some better players and challange for the UEFA Cup and Premiership next year? Which way do you guys see them going, Up or Down ?
Everyone has thier price, offer enough and they'll sell Brad. They did just agree to terms for Gresko, 1.5m which was quoted as being a bargin. So if Rovers can keep Brad and Duff I would think they'll be in very good shape for next year.
To what end? I mean, a club wants to keep a good balance sheet, but the purpose of the club is to win stuff. I've made the point umpteen times...unless Brad asks to go, he won't go, because he's worth more to Blackburn than he is to Arsenal or ManU. If they sell their best player, who wants to stay, the board is telling their fans they're not trying to win. You can't put a pricetag on demoralized fanbase. I mean, yeah, if someone offers Eleventy Gazillion pounds, they'll sell him...and many fans will probably be in favor. But a GK ain't worth Eleventy Gazillion pounds. There's a small handful of players in the whole world, in today's market, more valuable than the alienation of the Rovers' fans.
Money, money - if Arsenal had Brad, it's likely they'd have won the title. If Man U, had Brad, they'd be sitting pretty even if Beckham goes to Real. If Blackburn makes enough money from the sale - they just might sell Brad.
There have GOT to be GKs who are Bosmans who are at least 90% as good as Brad, and won't cost Eleventy Gazillion pounds in a transfer fee.
In an ideal world..... Sell Brad, keep Duff Use the transfer fee from Brad's sale and pick up Carlos Bocanegra Tim Howard and a forward (Josh Wolff, Mathis?)
In an ideal world..... Sell Brad, keep Duff Use the transfer fee from Brad's sale and pick up Carlos Bocanegra Tim Howard and a forward (Josh Wolff, Mathis?) But I have said this before. I imagine MLS would take 2 Mil for Boca and Mathis as their contracts run out next year and it sounds like they are going to leave for Europe anyway. So throw in another 3 mil for Howard and MLS will probably do it. 7 million total. That means that if they get 12-15 Mil for Brad, they have another 5-8 million to spend on other players.
You make a lot of sense, my thinking exactly, but sometimes it ain't that simple. Honestly how much is Brad's market value ? someone look up statistics on goalkeeper transfer feels
Thats the point I think. A keeper, even one of Brad's ability, just doesn't command much value, especially in today's very tight transfer market. I've no idea exactly what he would be worth, but let's say he's valued at 4mill (pounds even!...which I think would actually be high), does his market value exceed his value to the club? to the fans? Brad seems to be pretty well admired by the Rover faithful, and his manager. Plus he seems pretty happy there as well. I really think it would take an obscene amount to pry him away at the moment, and no club, not even Arsenal or Man U is going to spend it on a GK. Oh...and no way Tim Howard would be able to get a WP. He's not close to getting enough caps needed.
Not yet he doesn't. MLSNHTOWN, in the last few months I've become a huge Bocanegra fan. But he's not the caliber of player who will help Rovers make the Champions League, which is probably their immediate goal. To be honest, from what I saw, if he can make an adjustment to that caliber of competition, I think he has enough talent to play for Rovers. But the amount he'll improve the defense will be very small compared to the amount losing Friedel will harm it. Did you see the match at Highbury? Friedel played as great a game as you can play in goal. No way Rovers replace Brad with a player remotely capable of such a performance. Bahnzo makes a good point in mentioning Souness. You'd think Souness will listen a bit to bigger clubs looking to bring him in if the board forces him to sell his best player.
I think they'd have to say something like this, even if there were offers from other clubs, else there might be an uprising among angry, gun-totin' Blackburn fans that would line them up against the wall like it was a revolution. Well, if they had guns. Which I guess they wouldn't, unless they...aw nevermind.
Souness' main concern is that they don't get relegated again. According to him, Friedel is worth 12-15 points a year, and with a decent team around him that should be enough to avoid relegation. Souness would sell anyone before he would sell Friedel. If he was forced to sell Friedel, then I have no idea what he would do.
Not yet,but he is eligible, therefore won't need caps by the time he moves. If there's any pressure to sell Brad, it will come from the board. No gaffer, not just Souness, would want to move a keeper who has done so well. No board, not just Blackburn's,could afford to dismiss a big enough offer from a big enough club.
Please explain how Howard is eligable for an EU passport? I'm guessing he has a parent that is european? In reality, Blackburn is a small club...thier success this year is a real feather in the cap for them. The problem of being a small club is they don't have near the revenue source that larger clubs enjoy and hence don't have the ability to pay thier stars what a Man U. can afford to. If I was Brad, even if I was very happy with Rovers I would find it tough to turn down a huge salary increase that signing with a large club would bring. It's sport after all, and you have limited time to earn your living before retirement.
Howard's mother is Hungarian, so if/when Hungary becomes an EU member, Howard won't need to qualify for a WP.
They can get Mathis for free at the end of the MLS season. Howard will probably not be eligible for a WP unless/until Hungary gets in the EU. While he's got caps, they're not the right kind, and it will probably be quite a while until he gets enough of those "A" game caps to be eligible. Bocanegra is not eligible, and won't be unless he plays every game for the states in the upcoming tourneys AND the US advances past the group rounds. Wolff better start getting called in again soon, or by the end of the MLS season, he may no longer be eligible. Lee
Well, I must say that I agree if someone offers eleventy gazillion dollars, brad will move. But if that happens, does that mean someone will soon be offering tenidy bagollion for keller?
pretty much my thought on the matter...if someone offers enough money for him, Blackburn will sell...between Brad and Duff, Blackburn could gain upwards of 50 million...
