It's unbelieveable how our whole defense (midfield and defensive four) gets outplayed by 2-3 Hertha players. But that actually happens when midfielders rather run 2 or 3 meters longside their opponent instead of attacking them

I think 2 things were made blatantly obvious in this game.
    1. Van Bommel sucks
    2. Lell sucks

They have to go in the summer unless they improve dramatically between now and then. With Tymo and Ottl theres no reason why Van Bommel should still be at the club next season.

Disgraceful performance by all Bayern players that were on the pitch today. For some it was more disgraceful (Lell, Bommel, Borowski, Schwein) than for others but there is no excuse for any player to let a chance like this to take the lead in the league slip out of their hands with such an effortless and careless performance.

This is a terrible display from Bayern. Against Hamburg we had loads of chances, Last week we were lucky to score at the death but today we were not up for it at all.

This is no way to get far in the Champions league. No desire at all.

If we put up this performance against Lisbon we would get skinned alive

One shot on net from their team and they score 2nd half.. LOL Wow, I hate their lucky asses. The most defensive team in the Bundesliga is first now. I hate that..

    Hoeneß II. > Hoeneß I. :D

Last week, Bayern took advantage of the other teams at the top bottling their matches. But this week, when they had another golden opportunity to top the table with a win (after Hoffenheim's clear defeat at home), they lost again, just like they did against Hamburg two weeks ago, in another away match I might add.

This team seems to lack the killer instinct of the past.

    Completely agree.

If you decide to go forward in numbers, which Bayern did in the second half, knowing you are exposing your backline as you now are defending with 3, then it is IMPERATIVE that those players in the opposing half put HI-PRESSURE on their backline.

This didn't happen and thus Berlin countered on us at will.

Okay... yeah, that must be it.... because Ribery was in TOP FORM today as well as everyone else....

Give me a break. Nice 1st time post.
I will not disagree that we need a 'fix' in the center at DM. I have been on record as not be the biggest MVB fan.

However, I will defend MVB here in that he was abandoned way to much today and left to manage the center alone by Ze, Franck, and Bastian on occasion. I think it was a concerted effort not just one man today. I will give Mark that.

That being said, going back to your original point, with a player of more pace and youth in Tymoschuk we have someone to cover more ground if this is in fact how we intend on attacking every game.

It's not that Hertha were lucky, it's just that they took their chances whereas Bayern didn't take theirs. In the first half Hertha were better organised, better going forward and better defending. Bayern picked it up a bit in the 2nd half and had a spell of pressure where they scored 1 goal, but it should have been at least 2. Hertha capitalised on Bayerns missed chances and finished the game off with their 2nd goal.

If only the winter break had never happened, Bayern were playing some of their best football in years in October and November, now we're back to beginning of the season form.

I think changes are in order for next week:

    Lell out
    Schweini out

Altintop or Borowski starting for schweini
    Van buyten for lucio/micho
Oddo should be back i think, or does he have another match left on his ban?

after 20 matches if somethings not working, dont wait for it to decide to work if you can fix it faster

I can't completely agree with you. I don't disagree that didn't play well, but I thought for a guy who wishes to stay and the MLS clearly is going to try and keep (especially in light of the Beckham news), I felt today was the best opportunity to show Bayern management that he deserves to stay and they need to pony up the cash.

Unfair to put that all on one match? Yes, but you may remember that he was in nearly the identical situation I recall in Leverkusen when he had an opportunity to replace someone early in the game in a Champions League match and failed to really impress. I think it is safe to say that was all Bayer04 needed to see as he wasn't a serious option for them and they couldn't be bothered with the situation after that.

Do I think this was the last straw for LD? Certainly not. This was an abominable display on the part of the entire team.

Did Landon have his opportunities to shine? Yes, two. One he forced a great save from the keeper, and the other he mishit on a 1v1 that would have put Bayern ahead.

Will those chances missed come back to haunt him? I hope not, personally, but look... this is PURELY a business investment for Bayern at this point. And if they don't feel it is a wise investment based on performance per dollar ratio, then we all may be looking to this game as the 'one chance' Landon had to prove himself.

I happen to, in fact, be the biggest MVB fan!

Mark does an amazing job when the team works with him. He's usually really good about moving the midfield around, dictating the flow of the ball to areas that are open for attack. Today that didnt happen. On numerous occasions when he was calling for the ball to be moved to the other side of the field, ribery wanted to take matters into his own hands, and we all saw how well that worked out.

MVB is also the one that allows our players like lucio and lahm to push forward on attack, knowing that there is someone with defensive ability to cover for them until they can get back, and usually mark is very good with coming back to cover on defense and make the crucial tackle. however, today he had to pick up the slack of ZeRo and Bastian, who both had very horribly bad days.

people give him shit, but i love the man and would be sad to see him leave

I like your changes. I would love to see Landon get the right sided midfield role and either Oddo or Ailtontop in behind him.

I will say Schweini to the middle, but I have beaten that horse to death I think... ;)

haha, its ok. i was making a huge exaggeration, though i think he was (sadly) one of the better players out there today.

I agree that donovan should be making more of some of his chances, but he hasn't been on the field for more than 30 minutes combined up until this game, and I think he's figuring out what he needs to do and right now its just a matter of time before he can hit the back of the net. One thing I like about him is that he challenges balls Toni would just let go, and is always looking to go into a position to score. good traits for a striker. If he works at bayern i will be very pleased(as a USMNT supporter), but i totally understand if he doesnt.

And that is all well said. I commend you.

I think MVB did that for much of what I saw. I gave him a hard time last week, and this week specifically looked for it from him, and saw it on occasion. I think Hertha need to be commended for not allowing those "looks" from Bayern.

Yes, Ribery in the second half and Ze more in the first half were too ambitious with the ball at their feet. And if they lost it, it was deep in the opposing half meaning there was no way in hell they were going to recover 50 yards defensively.

I will say I saw WAY TOO much play over the top down the middle rather than to the flanks today, and that was MVB's responsibility at times, not always.

Our attack was dull, unimaginative, and never involved the flanks. Ribery is best when he can penetrate the left corner and make something happen. We don't have that answer for the right side, which is why Hertha left it open all game.

In the end, I think Hertha had a game plan, stuck to it, mopped up on Bayern's mistakes, and took the 3 points.

Luck or not, Bayern didn't deserve those points they way they played.
Time to look reality in the mirror, lads.

Not the end of the world, only one game, but clearly there are things amiss in Bavaria...

"For the first time since 1993, Bayern fielded an unchanged line-up for the fourth match in succession"-FCB website

We saw today exactly why this hasn't happened in 16 years. it doesn't work

it was additionally a bad call since half the squad played for their country midweek.

That (along with no useful substitutions) were the only reasons why I wanted Hitzfeld out last season.
