BL matchday 19: Schalke - Werder, February 7th 2009 [R]

..aka 'Not vs. Elend'.

According to the official Werder site, this will be our squad for the match, no idea who will start yet:

Despite its importance, I don't expect much from this match. Maybe I should, because the team only performed against the 'big guns' so far this season. But the disappointment about the Bielefeld match is still there, and we still can't play Diego and especially Pizarro.

Good to see Tosic benched, finally! Boenisch simply can't be worse. Hope that both Özil and Boenisch will be extra motivated against their ex-club.

 

Werder with the better start so far. The team looks aggressive and highly motivated, no real chances yet though.

 

Naldo with the second dangerous header after a corner. Surprisingly, our corners look actually good today.

 

Seriously, f*ck Marcel Reif. Who cares about that idiot, concentrate on the match

It's obvious that both teams are afraid to lose, but I don't think anyone expected champagne football from this match anyway, considering the situation both clubs are in ("Not vs. Elend" indeed).

At least we look surprisingly solid defensively. Can't say if this has more to do with the toothless Schalke attack though.

Hopefully, we'll see a more interesting second half. Frings has been very dsiappointing again, unfortunately, we don't have many alternatives left on the bench...

 

Second half started, Kuranyi for Altintop, no changes for us.

 

Höwedes scores a header for Schalke after a (totally unnecessary) free kick. 1-0 Schalke.

 

FFS Rosenberg, how could you miss that? Rosenberg misses a great chance after a great dribbling by Özil. He should have let Özil shoot himself.

 

The team is finally waking up.

 

Rosenberg's passiveness and laxness really pisses me off. 'Pomadig' is the German word for it.

I'm tired of mediocrity.

 

So do Frings' absolutely horrible, just HORRIBLE corners. He should never take them again. Ever.

 

It would be nice if we were a bit more lucky for a change. That's the third time Naldo comes close to scoring a header.

 

Pasanen for Boenisch, who came very close to be sent off.

And another good chance for Naldo...

 

Frings = total utter shit today. Period.

 

WTF is Schaaf doing? Niemeyer for Naldo, who actually was one of the better players today?

I didn't expect anything from this match, but it's still just sad to see how awful we have become. Schalke were terrible, but we still could not even score one goal against them.

Still denying that we are in the relegation battle? Allofs and Schaaf are both to blame for this mess, for the reasons discussed umpteen times already. If this shit continues, heads have to roll. Yesterdays' success means shit today.
