(please see BIZARRO MLS message elsewhere on this board for an explanation of what it is).

I gave the BMLS commissioner a phone call today (he was in Barbados para-sailing when he took my call), and he has grudging agreed to entertain franchise nickname changes for several of the BMLS teams. So here's your chance! Suggest new nicknames for these city's BMLS franchises. No promises that the commissioner will adopt your suggestion, but maybe if he has enough pina coladas he just might. Here are the cities available for renaming nicknames:

    Baltimore
    Buffalo
    Cleveland
    Milwaukee
    Pittsburgh
    Indiana
    New Orleans
    San Francisco
    St. Louis

    Happy nicknaming!

As the PR representative of the marketing arm of the San Diego franchise, I wish to inform you that we don't wish to be called the Sockers, as that is an inferior brand of (indoor) soccer.

The San Diego Flash, the San Diego Mission or the San Diego Border Honchos would suffice. :)

I took the suggestion to change team names, and to have game scores, and to have ties.

Evidently I have to take all the suggestions, take orders like a short order cook. Like counting TDs in box scores all autumn.

No thanks, dude! It's all yours, do a good job with it.

Buffalo Soldiers... ha, i like that one. same with the Cleveland Rocks. you know, now that i think about it, Hearts would be a cool name for San Fran. i also like the Racers, and the Voodoo (even though that's a bit cheesy MLS-type name). i'm still gonna say St. Louis Crusaders, though. Gotta play off of the name of the city (St. Louis - aka Louis IX of France - was the head of one of the Crusades - the 3rd one, i think.)

    Team name

Knowing what it is going to take to get a stadium in chicago the team should change its name to the Chicago Kickbacks.

I sent this to the Nike Marketing Department and they wrote me back.

    "Mr. Pakovits,

As you know, we at Nike harbor an utter abhorrance of naming teams after animals, persons or physical objects. We prefer team names that represent abstract concepts. Therefore, we submit the following for your consideration:

    Baltimore Wet
    Buffalo Riposte
    Cleveland Ennui
    Milwaukee Fratricide
    Pittsburgh Osteopathy
    Indiana Parlimentarianism
    New Orleans Misconduct
    San Francisco Surprise
    St. Louis Collision

Thank you for contacting Nike where we do NOT use sweatshop, you hear?

    Sincerely,

    Obstrepious Thud
    Assistant Director of Marketing
    "
