It's in Wikipedia from a Wall Street Journal article, but WSJ is behind a paywall so a link wouldn't really help unless you are a subscriber.
A Washington Post story says that the amount that clients can't retrieve is 190 million which if true makes the 20% number suspect.
Are you talking about Quadriga? Because I'm talking about all Bitcoins lost for any reason, and this number was around before the Quadriga thing became news.
He plays Captain and Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Admiral Adama. He does not have a penchant for antiquing in this series. Which is great.
Where's the link to the story about the 30 year old crypto exchange CEO who kicked the bucket and took the passwords for all of his encrypted data to the grave? Oh, here it is: https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/05/tech/quadriga-gerald-cotten-cryptocurrency/index.html His investors lost around $145M. Unless they find those passwords on a sticky note somewhere.
It seems highly likely the money was simply stolen and the CEOs encrypted laptop is simply a bricked laptop where all this fraud could be hidden when he died Nerds have been doing block chain analysis which show Quadrgia was insolvent, essentially using deposits to cover withdrawals - leading to increasing delays in being able to get withdrawals honoured. Also they were harvesting BTC and $ETH out to other exchanges In otherwords this is a giant scam and the Court is having the wool pulled over its eyes

I'm curious to know if this guy has been confirmed dead. I can see some story about him being immediately cremated when he's actually living the high life somewhere.
There had been contact with the luxury hospital he died at and they have given a detailed statement on his death I think he really did die and that presented the opportunity for him to take all the Bitcoin to his grave
Listen, give me access to this guys estate papers, 200$/hr and 5%. Ill start typing until I get it. Totally worth it to pay a bit more and give me a team.
