I’ve seen a pair of red-winged blackbirds on my walks on the local railpath - will try to get a photo - but I’ll be honest, I’m a shitty wildlife photographer.
Nice. We have a holly tree that Bohemian waxwings pick clean in late Fall/early winter. This has happened three or four times in the past decade. I looked, and they usually do not go as far south as Virginia Beach. Do you use any apps to identify birds? I started with the Merlin app and have identified birds that I would have had trouble with in the past. Last month or so was a Blue Grosbeak, and earlier i the week was an Acadian Flycatcher
There's something about the subtlety of waxwing's coloration that I find soothing to my eye - I'm not sure that makes any sense, but that's the best way I can think of to say it. I use Merlin also. It seems to do better for the song identification than it does for the tool, especially if the app doesn't seem to think that what I'm seeing should be where I'm seeing it (even though I have to most comprehensive packs downloaded). Sometimes when I'm sleeping in my hammock, if I stir early prior to really waking, I'll turn on the song identification and doze back off. It can be amazing how many species it will identify by the time I'm up for good.
I was just informed by my wife this weekend that the Bohemian Waxwings were more than likely Cedar Waxwings
