I like Barry Bonds. Since you do not play professional baseball, you have no right to judge him.

Barry Bonds is great. But baseball is a US sport (with a few exceptions) and I'd prefer an athlete who brings recognition to the US on the world stage for playing a world game (Venus or Tiger?).

I really do not think that any of us should be allowed to vote since none of us are professional athletes. Who are we to judge others??????

LOL....good one. (am I the only former headbanger on BS?)

BTW, no offence but it would be a tragidy if Lance Armstrong didn't win this....but knowing how the majority of American's only know the 'major sports' here, Tiger will probably win.

Golf is no more a sport than billiards.

Poor Barry, don't judge him til you walked a mile in his free Fila spikes.

Using those criteria, you made a terrific case for Lance Armstrong. Cycling is definitely one of the world's sports. Like soccer, it's traditionally dominated by Europeans. Armstrong has beaten the rest of the world at their own sport in the Tour de France--the biggest race of the year--four years in a row now, forcing the rest of the world to respect American cyclists. Not bad for a guy who had cancer before his first Tour victory.

Yes, the US exceeded expectations at the World Cup, but Donovan had a luke-warm performance in Asia and a less-than-stellar season for the Quakes. It's hard to make a case for him being athlete of the year.

It would probably be a curse for him to win.
