Germany is interesting, though they source most of their keepers from DACH. For one as a keeper you need to speak the language, and of course there is a treasure trove of talent available domestically. Maybe as a replacement for a club like Köln or Mainz after the likes of Horn or Karius are inevitably poached by bigger teams?

There's a treaty called the Cotonou Agreement that allows EU countries to admit nationals from certain African & Caribbean countries on equal footing with EU citizens. Only a handful of countries are actively using that path, but Spain is one of them.

    From back in 2007:

The Real Federación Española de Fútbol has recently been forced to remove its restrictions on the number of African, Caribbean and Pacific players that football clubs are allowed to field, after clubs successfully argued that the Cotonou Agreement allowed these players the same rights as EU citizens. Manuel J. Martin Dominguez, of Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Abogados, explains the Cotonou Agreement's application to sport and argues that other EU countries could be forced to follow suit.

As BostonRed alluded to, select EU countries give citizens of countries who are part of the Cotonou agreement the same status/rights as EU nationals, and Denmark, Spain and France do that in regards to football.

Part of the reason there's so many Africans in Ligue 1. Also related to the Kolpak Ruling.

Thus the Kolpak Ruling declares that citizens of countries which have applicable Association Agreements with the EU, and who are lawfully working within an EU country, have equal rights to work as EU citizens, and cannot have restrictions such as quotas placed upon them. Such countries include those within the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states, such as South Africa, Jamaica and Zimbabwe.

I can understand France but quite shocked that Denmark does. Specifically in recent years with issues involving immigrants and all. But again a hard working foreigner is good and thats positive.

If he makes the jump to Europe, impresses, no reason why he isn't in consideration for our #1 job

No thread is complete without a detailed explanation of the Cotonou agreement if our guy has any colonial/african connection at all.

While it may be informal, Fabianski isn't exactly a superstar.

Going to England isn't helping since he won't get a work permit.

That's what I was thinking. There's no way he'd qualify for a work permit in England.

Especially since his Sierra Leone heritage makes him a Cotonou-eligible player in some countries.

Man, that's pretty crappy if they're sitting him just because he won't sign a new deal and scouts want to check him out. With Hamid especially, he's earned the right to explore other options after years of propping up crappy DC teams.

I concur. He hasn't badmouthed them in public or anything. Hopefully they can settle this amicably.

Olson is ungrateful. He doesn't need to watch Clark, everyone knows what Clark will give you, they are doing this so Hamid will get less European interest, and then he might come crawling back to them because of it.
