Bigsoccer, FC Barcelona Yahoo La Liga Fantasy League 2011/2012

I really wish there was a draft-style fantasy game. Not only am I more familiar with those but having a draft reminds me that it's time to start focussing on the season. I forgot to set my lineup Saturday morning before Sporting v RS (why did it have to kick off at 9am???) and so I got zero points this week. Now all the players I setup, waiting for today so I could register them, are too expensive to afford.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I dumped Soldado early in the season, glad he didn't score today. But yeah Falcao has really dipped also. Dunno how much longer I can hold on to him.

Last week I had a fire sale on Levante players also.

Andrés, are you going to revise your strategy of playing Cristian Alvarez as your GK? I know you snapped him up for the princely sum of 1.00, but he hasn't played since jornada 19! And you might be guilty of <gasp!> Messipendencia.

Ironically, I think I might've caught up to you in the group standings the same day Messi scored 4 on Valencia.

Monty also making a strong run in the home stretch of the season! Now sliding into 3rd, and jf also challenging for a top 3 spot. (who is Blackstone Lion btw?)

I have Christian Alvarez too

 

I did for awhile, too. Even after he was benched it seemed like a good idea just cuz you can use those 99 units to buy other guys. But since I've gone off Alvarezpendencia things have been looking up.

yeah, it shows. I don't spend so much time worrying about my EPL team, either.

 

I don't get why his market value is 1.40 or something, but his real value is like 7. Will I ever get 7 for selling him?

 

C'mon, don't act like you don't know the rules at this stage in the season... j/k

If you buy a player at, say, 1.40 and he plays well, his value will go up for new buyers. But you can't capitalize on his market value, only on the points he wins for your team in game performances. So you won't get 7 back for him, just whatever you bought him for.

However, if a player you buy turns out to be a dud, gets carded, etc., then his value goes DOWN, and it opens more 'salary cap' room to buy others. (Assuming you decide to keep faith with this player.)

D'oh! I had Siqueira on my squad last weekend, then took him off thinking he'd do nothing but chase shadows of Messi in the Camp Nou. As he stepped up to kick the two PKs today, I was kicking myself.

Strangely, I was trailing VEB all season until I dropped Messi. Even during his stretch of monster scoring games, it turned out a better strategy to have a spread of decent players likely to score. Oh, and getting rid of Espanyol's Cristian Alvarez was a tough but good call. A few of us got him at the bargain price of 1.00 point, but then he lost his #1 GK spot and it made more sense to scout for a non-pine-riding keepers.

Mystery solved. JF, you definitely get the Fair Play award for naming your squad in solidarity with immigrant rights in Arizona, a la Los Suns, Los Lakers and Los Spurs in the NBA.
Maybe an Intertoto berth for JCVF?
Cheers to everyone who spent probably way too many hours this season scouring the bottom of the value tables for players who would actually play and not produce negative returns. (I'm looking at you, Marchena! )
