I've picked this up since I started the thread:

I found out I already knew a few of these tunes. Jerry Garcia played some of them on his acoustic guitar & mandolin duet CDs with David Grisman.

Hurt was an enormous influence on Garcia's phrasing-- "Pay Day" in particular...
