Does anyone know if the Super Bowl is the most watch annual sporting event in the world? Does the UEFA Champions league final beat it in the number of viewers. I know the Super Bowl is barely watched outside of North America, but half of the US watches it each year. Is it?

well, i think some events like the last f1 races of the year get more viewers.

NBA final and champions league final maybe get close due international broadcasting.

The problem I see with the champions league final is that Football (soccer) in europe is so spread out over different competitions that it doesn't have that one pinnacle event that the NFL has in the super bowl. Same thing with the NBA, because you can have seven games.

I never thought about the F1 races.

Yeah, its mainly down to the huge population of the USA. Obviously if England had 300 million people, the FA Cup final would beat the Super Bowl in ratings and so would the CL Final. And if Spain had 300 million people, every Barca - Madrid league match would be right up there with the Super Bowl.

    The website's pretty off-base. I mean this:

"Here are the largest TV sports audiences of all time, according to various sources:

    1. 2002 FIFA World Cup Final (1.3 billion viewers)
    2. Euro 2004 Soccer Final (153 million viewers)
    3. 2004 Olympic Games: opening ceremony (127 million viewers)
    4. 2004 Olympic Games: closing ceremony (96 million viewers)
    5. 2004 Super Bowl (95 million viewers)
    6. 2004 Olympic Games: men's 100m metres (87 million viewers)
    7. 2003 Champions League (67 million viewers)
    8. 2004 Olympic Games: men's 200m freestyle swimming (66 million viewers)
    9. 2004 Formula One: Monaco Grand Prix (59 million viewers)
    10. 2004 Basketball: NBA finals (25 million viewers)"

    just doesn't make any sense.

Taking those numbers literally, while the (at that time) most watched Super Bowl of all time was the 2004 event, it's the only one that cracks a top 10 that includes an NBA Finals that only attracted 25 million viewers? Um, no.

That list must be the 10 top most watched events per type of event. So, the most watched Champions League Final, most watched Super Bowl, most watched WC Final, and so on.
