I'm a skinny baseball fan, but I also like soccer. I've also known some morbidly obese soccer fans.

And yes, you need to get a life. It's people like you who are the reason people don't like soccer.

well how about you tell your people to stop saying soccer is for "gay" people?

    they stop, we stop.

In AM's defense thats not the reason. Far more people complain about the sport being "gay, soft, boring, weak, for gilrs,no scoring, for kids, easy to play, foreign, etc." who dont even know what soccer's about, then it is soccer fans giving back a taste of these fans own medicine's.

I first wondered where you people were from where you hear people say that soccer is for gay people.

Then I realized you were all from the South.

People who think soccer is "gay" works for espn, fsn, they go to baseball games and nfl games.

you find them on espn.com, myspace sports forums, youtube, yahoo sports forums, aol sports forums.

the last time i had a argument it was vrs an american football player from minnesota, i dont think minnesota is in the south is it?

No, it's the in your face "IT'S FOOTBALL, NOT SOCCER, YOU #@*$^&#^%&!" crowd that gives soccer a black eye. While it is true that the likes of Jim Rome and Tony Kornheiser bash soccer, but they do it because it gets them ratings. Most people who don't like soccer don't give it a second thought, until they are provoked by high strung, one-dimensional soccer fans who demand that everyone bow to the black and white orb (that's a ball for you public school kids). Someone else said it, but I'm going to repeat it; if you stoop to the level of the haters, and dish it back, you're no better than they are, and you lose. You can't make anybody like anything, and if you try, they'll resent it.

Give it a rest already. You're not going to change anybody's mind, except for the worse. If they hate soccer now, they'll really hate after you're done with them.

It is only February, and we already have a "Dumbest Thread Of The Year" candidate. Dude must be really fat, given his angst.

On the text scroll during "Fox Football Fone-In" last night, there were a handful of viewer messages to this effect, as there are most weeks. It's just so laughably dumb and clueless.

You know, look, I'd love to call the game "football." Unfortunately, there's another entity with that name, and it already dominates the country's vocabulary. Anybody who wants to communicate clearly and efficiently with their fellow human beings here is stuck with it. What are we supposed to do -- go around wasting our time by talking about "football" and confusing everyone?

I write and say football (or soccer depending on the company I am with) and add American/College before saying anything about American football. My problem is that these individuals who bash soccer only see the results (1-0, 0-0) and not the match in itself. Soccer is a new trend for USA, and is growing. When immigrants came here in the late 19th early 20th centuries they abandoned all things of their heritage to be more American due to the heavy xenophobia at the time of their arrival. Among these things was the beautiful game. The families embraced baseball and basketball and American football to become one with the American culture at the time and not to appear as foreign. In today's culture you are seeing people get more into their roots, exploring family trees, and picking up the culture that was dropped. Don't worry bout the idiots who despise the sport, with MLB getting a constant black eye and NBA ratings not doing so hot, expect some changes in the sports hierarchy of America.

Also I'd give Cowherd sometime, he may be a blowhard at some points, but I think he will join us in the future. Rome is a lost cause.

This might not win, but it will definitely still be on the leader board in late December, 2009.

    AM,

Amigo mio, if you really are in need of a response to the "gay" attacks on soccer in this nation just tell your enemy that you dare them to go up to a Scottish futba' die hard and tell 'em he's gay for liking soccer.

    Then go from there.

i dont where should i start, i hate violence but sometimes you just have to show people you got balls too.

and the other haters dont worry, im about to be banned from here anyway. bigsoccer does not allow real macho men to post in the US soccer forums. in fact, soccer people dont allow real macho men to join their sport in north america.

I agree, AM got balls. This is what need on ESPN. Get Wynalda to interupt sportscenter by running in front of the screen and say "soccer owns..... bitches". It would be the highlight of the day;).
