After about 25 minutes (I think, my audio stream is sketchy), IU 1, PSU 0. Brian Plotkin scores on an assist from, who else, Ned Grabavoy. GO HOOSIERS!
Crud! PSU scores the equalizer in the 44th minute. Michael Lindeman (sp?) scores from a corner, beating Jay Nolly up high off a header. Lindeman's first goal of the season.
5 minutes into 2nd half and IU comes out w/o any changes. PSU has 2 subs come on, Zeywey (sp?) comes off along with one other (name?). PSU has stayed w/ the physical play, they just racked up foul #19! Iwas wrong, Dias comes off for Shinaberger to start the half.
End of regulation, still tied 1-1. Sounds as if IU dominated, but PSU was able to capitalize on their one legit chance of the game. Anyone out there watching on CSTV? If so, can you add some commentary?
Still 1-1 at the end of the first 10 minutes of OT. Sounds as if Novchich is playing out of his mind in goal for PSU. IU had a great chance with two point blank rebound chances, buy Novchich covered them. Here we go with OT period number two . . .
2 great saves by Nolley in the PKs gives IU the Big10 championship. IU was the the better team but PSU did well to take it into the PKs on the road.
That's it! Jay Nolly comes up huge, making two saves! Brian Plotkin scores the clincher! IU wins 4-1 on PKs to give Coach Yeagley his 10th Big Ten Tournament title. Every time IU has won the regular season title, they've also won the conference tournament. Well deserved end to the '03 regular season for Coach Yeagley.
Coach Yeagley and IU continue to roll and Sandon's dream of a working wristwatch made of wood continues!!
Hey guys. It was an amazing match (I was the pbp on WIUS). Hope you all enjoyed our coverage--any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, thanks for listening. Like to see that wooden watch when it comes out! haha
good game 4 to 1 on shots in favor of IU. About 3 to 1 on fouls against PSU. 40+ fouls in the game. It was a perfect day for soccer in B-town. Should have been decided in regulation if it weren't for some unlucky finishing and a lapse in concentration on PSU's goal of the corner (not one IU player went up to challege for the ball). IU always looked the most dangerous on the attack with some really nice build ups (especially on plotkin's goal). I thought Ned had a gem of a game. He's so deceptively strong on the dribble it's amazing. His touch and vision were impeccable today. The only thing was one or two times he hesitated on a shot which could have wrapped up the game within 90. But hey, they still one so... We're definitely going to miss Ned and Drew in the Tourny. Hopefully Trey can step in and find some channels on the attack and Pat continue to clean up the trash. We'll see. -anyone know if there will be a tourny game at Bill Armstrong? Finally... Go IU. Nice win for the old coach.
Hoosier Utd. - I certainly did enjoy the PBP, thanks for "painting the pictures" for me. Now if I could just afford a high-speed connection, things would be grand! It did indeed sound as if IU would have been more clinical at finishing that the game would have ended at 90". However, I think it is great that their resilience got them through the OT and the PKs. Great for Ned to bury his and get a monkey off his back. Flip1178 - I'm with you and wish Ned and Drew would be around until the NCAAs wrap up. What a great honor not only for them though, and for IU and Coach Yeagley as well, to be going to UAE. Even w/o those two, the Hoosiers will continue to work their butts off and not leave any games to chance. If they defend well, they can be in any game. Zayner, O'Rourke, and Nolly are keys IMHO. Hopefully, IU can score some goals on counters and defend like mother bears. (Speaking of Mother Bear's, I really miss living in B-ton). Coach will have the team ready to go for every game, and that's all any Hoosiers fan can ask for. I would like to think that with IU's great play of late and the fact that Armstrong is a sweet facility, that there will be at least two tournament games in B-ton. I hope to make it up to see those games. I am still trying to recover from the fact that I couldn't make it for Coach Yeagley Bobblehead night. If anyone is interested in moving in with me for a week and helping me catch up on grading papers, I could probably make it up for a game. GO HOOSIERS!
Damon: Glad you enjoyed the broadcast--sorry it wasn't too clear--high speed would help! We should also have the games here in Bloomington the rest of the way, so check out our website (www.wius.org). Also, my show tomorrow has Pat Noonan on, so tune in. It's a good show if I say so myself. It's Mondays, 10am to noon. As for the team, Grabavoy missing will be the more painful one. The team has played without Drew Moor earlier in the year with Shinabarger in the defense. No Ned will hurt the offense badly I feel. The front line of Peterson and Meek/Badger/Robson is not too fear-striking. But we need to let them go, and hope Yeagley can keep it up! GO IU
