Ofcourse all these players have great accomplishments but most of these dont have Hugos accomplishments. Di Stefano is the only striker that has the same amount of Pichichis as Hugo, not even Puskas has the same. How many strikers can boast 38 goals in the best league in the world. He was Spanish league best foreigner twice.

If Batistuta is in it, than Hugo more than deserves a spot.

    1. When Hugo Sanchez played in La Liga it was far from "the best league in the world".
    2. If Puskas came to Spain before his 31st birthday I'm sure he would have been top scorer more than 4 times.
    3. Don't try to compare Sanchez to Puskas ;)
    4. Hugo Sanchez's international career with Mexico wasn't as great as some other strikers on the list.
    5. His performances with Real in Europe weren't earth shettering as well.

Rummenigge played when the Bundesliga was the best league in Europe (at least on the UEFA coefficient thing) and when he moved to Italy, Italy was taking over by itself or level with the Bundesliga.

He was a twice Ballon D'or winner. He won Euro '80. Won a European Cup with Bayern. A few Bundesliga titles (He was obviously the key part of the team with Breinter).

His goal record is not as good at Batistuta's (but still good with 45 in 90 games for Germany) because he was a roaming forward player who assisted more than he scored. He was like Henry, but roamed more rather than sticking mainly to the left.

In the late 70s and early 80s he was recognised as the best player in the world generally. If he wasn't badly troubled by injury in the 2 world cups he played he may have won 1 too.

I just don't feel Batistuta quite matches up to all that overall.

Im not trying to say Hugo was the best player in history, but he is in the top 50.

Half the strikers on this list dont come close to Hugos accomplishments. Some of them played in mediocre leagues at best and they get a nod in the top 50. He was recently selected to the top 10 in Real Madrids best players in their history right after Puskas.

If Hugos records arent enought to merrit a top 50 than I dont know what the criteria for selecting players is.

Do I need to paste all of Hugos accomplishments or what?

Explain to me how Batistuta is in it but not Hugo.

Beckenbauer is a legit no.1 candidate.

So is Pele of course and so is Maradona.

It's just that people don't see this.

All three are legitimate candidates and you can add Cruijff to the list. I can't see a top 5 list without all of them. Having said that, IMO, Pele is half a step head of the other 3.

Not Cruijff as a legit no.1 for me because he did not do as well as the other 3 in the crucial games in major international tournaments.

I factor in everything. Skill. Titles won. Leadership.

Pele is not half a step ahead of the other 2 for me. It's just that people hear about him so much that it's impossible to not think of him as the outright best.

You exceeded the limit for rearranging. I don't think Excape Goat wanted to include goalkeepers otherwise Zoff, Yashin and Banks would have been in this list already.

I took the original list from IFFHS. They did not have keepers, but I don't really care. Since Yashin is on, may as well.

    Which strikers would those be?
For a player who played a substantial number of international games against relatively poor teams his record is nothing special.

Funny, somebody takes Pepi Bican out, the most prolific goalscorer in history, and nobody says anything. But 'it's a crime' that Hugo Sanchez gets taken out.

People need some historical perspective here.

I think Hugos record in One of Europes best leagues more than makes up for his lack of International accomplishments. Dont forget Hugo didnt exactly play for a good national team in those days.

Batistuta for one, would be one of those strikers.

    1. Hugo won 4 pichichis in a row, something only the great Di Stefano has done in Spanish league history.
    2. Hugo is also tied for second place with 5 Pichichis won
    3. Holds the record for most goals in one season with 38
    4. Won European Goldent boot
    5. Was best foreigner twice in Spain
    6. Was selected to the top ten best players of all time in Real Madrids history, the best club of the century.
    7. He's the second Highest scorer in Spanish league history with 234 goals

Like I have stated before, Im not saying Hugo was top ten or anything of that sort, but he more than deserves to be in the top 50.

Batistuta made a rather modest club better against stiff competition, and has an excellent strike rate internationally. I like Hugol, and his accomplishments are considerable, but in balance I would put them on par. Frankly, and based solely on bios (not old enough to have seen all play), I would have both Batigol and Hugol on the list (as it exists in this snapshot) as the lowest rated forwards/strikers in this list, and reluctantly drop Dennis Law.

Equally though people need some sort of geographical perspective.

Most of the in/outs have involved players from someone's own country.

As much as I personally love lists, this one is just impossible.

While Bican's records are impressive at first glance, the time frame and level of competition don't appear to qualify him for top 50 status. As I mentioned earlier, Batistuta and Sanchez are (IMHO) very, very close, and probably both a shade better than Dennis Law. Bican...somewhere in the 50-100 range.

Mind you, this is a VERY exclusive club. Certainly there's no shame in being on the "second team".

    1) Sorry, I understood the rules as each "flip" counting as one move.
    2) Yashin was on the list before I moved him to the top 10.

Personally I think matthaeus is overrated in this list. Just like with Pele being no.1, people seem to have this thing that matthaeus cannot be outside a top 20 of all-time.

He'd be better at say 30-40. Breitner, Overath and Netzer should all be higher than Matthaeus IMO.

And seriously how is Rummennige not in a top 50 list?
