Following the success of GersMan’s club draft, I invite you all to participate in a pool where your knowledge of international soccer will be put to the test. Each contestant, playing for honor (and even possibly respect from fellow posters…) will draft teams out of the qualifying groups that have been drawn on the road to Germany 2006. Each contestant will need to select its team as follows: 5 Euro teams (Start on 08/18) 3 African teams (Start on 06/04) 1 South American team (5 match days down, next one 06/01) 1 CONCACAF team (Start on 06/12) 3 Asian Teams (2 match days down, next one on 06/09) No selection in Oceania since it’s too lopsided… Your selections made in groups already started will carry forward all points already gained (exception of preliminary stages in all regions) For all regional formats rules, head over to the FIFA site: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/preliminaries.html The points tabulation will be: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 5 bonus points for every team that qualifies for Germany 2006. I’ll post up a website similar to the one for the club draft to help follow selections. Actual play at the World cup will be in a pool by itself when we get there. Ok, only 10 contestant are needed, but… Drafting hours are from 9am to 3am Monday to Friday US east coast (no picks on weekends) Each team clock is limited to an hour after the previous selection (if we’re not moving fast enough, I reserve myself the right to chop it down to half an hour) If you miss your allowed time to select, your pick is floating and the next one in line can jump in and select. Floating picks can be made outside drafting hours to allow catching up. Once you are floating, your turn can be skipped if no sign of life have been shown. I suggest you build up teams of three (like the Draft of draft https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100986, check this one out. It’s well worth the read). This allows you to discuss strategy with others and allows reducing delays when waiting for another’s team selection. If you are not a regular poster (meaning not online a lot), better join a team with others. Members already in: 1. GersMan & lfsr1544 (team name to be confirmed) 2. Montréal United (looking for team members - drafting Canada is not an absolute) 3. Riverdale Goalie 4. Torpedo 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Once everybody's in, I'll post the draft order. Don’t hesitate to PM players already in to join their team.
Hum, I foresee With the first pick overall, Ombak selects Brazil... Members already in: 1. GersMan & lfsr1544 (team name to be confirmed) 2. Montréal United (looking for team members - drafting Canada is not an absolute) 3. Riverdale Goalie 4. Torpedo 5. Ombak 6. Bluedaddy19 7. 8. 9. 10.
Hum, yes I can... Brazil always struggle though qualifying which is the only thing that counts while others can go undefeated through tournament qualifications. Not telling names to help future picks, but some teams along the lines of the 98 world champs...
Well, so as not to giveaway strategy let me also vaguely say that there are other factors here which would make them a great pick for qualifying.
to understand correctly, we will keep the same teams that make it into the Final, correct? Not sure I understand what you meant about separate pool. Not intended as a slap against lfsr1544 - but I didn't consent to sharing my team with him. Give him his own. If I take a teammate I want someone living in another part of the world (New York is somewhere else granted, but give me another address
Then, Members already in: 1. GersMan (looking for someone living elsewhere than the USA) 2. Montréal United (looking for team members - drafting Canada is not an absolute) 3. Riverdale Goalie 4. Torpedo 5. Ombak 6. Bluedaddy19 7. lfsr1544 8. 9. 10. I don't believe we should keep the same teams for the World Cup itself. This game is gonna be long enough all by itself. I don't want to drag it up to late 2006... When the dust settles, we could have another draft with choices made in the order we finished to advantage good performances in this game.
Perfect... we shall be known as "Torpedo United" (Wow, what creativity, I even amaze myself sometimes... ) Members already in: 1. GersMan (looking for someone living elsewhere than the USA) 2. Torpedo & Montréal United (Team Torpedo United) 3. Riverdale Goalie 4. Ombak 5. Bluedaddy19 6. lfsr1544 7. 8. 9. 10.
Well, I'd like to join in. Why don't you have a draw in the privacy of your own home (just don't tell us what else you do), Montreal United, to determine draft order? We trust you....I think . Anybody wants to join my team (or anybody want me to join their's) ? If so, let's talk on email to develop a strategy, or floating picks in case we can't get our picks in. We start his Monday, 9 am EDT, the 17th, right?
Actually, the draw will be made under the supervision of the accounting firm Fortin, Paquin & Associates (Me, my wife both accountants, and our 1 year old son who will draw) Riverdale is looking for a partner. Might want to PM him. We'll start picking the day following the completion of the team... or most likely Monday. P.S. Wow, an Aviator fan... bet you can't wait to see the Impact come to Commenwealth and thrash your team...
"Horse Sense" Entry: Big Soccer’s Road to the World Cup draft Okay, Montreal United, set me down for a team called "Horse Sense". I have asked hungaryforever and soccerfever to join me in a team, so they can be, tentatively, my teammates, at least until I hear from them. Do we send you a floating list in case we miss our turn at any time during the draft next week? Didn't do the draft of drafts, but looked at that thread, and will learn as I go along. Sounds like fun!
Are you will to be in a team? GersMan is looking for some international flavor to his team. You might want to PM him.
Sure you'll make the deadlines? Just checking as I was this to be fast moving (yes it's an utopia, but...)
