before the new stadiums, Portugal was average around 7,000 per game, with three games on the 04/05 we are over the 11,000 mark the league is basically supported by the TV contract's, with almost all the games on live TV, its a big improvement check the link http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/current/avepor.htm
It's still too bad the attendance couldn't be better. Maybe they should black out some games from TV to force the people to go out and watch the matches in person.
18% increase over one year is pretty damn good. Some of these clubs have a huge increase from last year. União de Leira 1.750 2 -68,2% The people in Leira need to start going to games. They have nice stadium..so why so low??
It would be amazing if every match had the attendance and atmosphere such as the recent Benfica x Porto match at the Luz, but it's not reality to expect every game to be like that.
4 Vitória SC Guimarães 16.580 3 54,5% 5 SC Braga 13.358 3 41,5% 6 A Académica de Coimbra 10.043 3 30,5% Those 3 teams are making the biggest difference from last year.
Benfica isn't selling very well either... did any one see the UEFA Cup game? The attendence to that game was sad for a european competition... Portuguese people are going to have to support their clubs by actually going to the game. Hell, if I lived in Portugal I'd go to every Porto game.
That is only after three games i will hold my judgement until at least half the season is done. Although Guimaraes numbers look real good considering that they only played Porto and Benfica in the fourth and Fifth game and those numbers are not on there yet.
Maybe the initial stumble by the Holy Trinity, suddenly made games like Setubal X Braga a lot more interesting. So, if you are Estoril fan maybe will get a point out of Porto or Sporting and that makes sense to spend 15€ or more to go to a game in your neighborhood.
nice to see Gil Vicente vs Benfica, 12,000 http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-portugalsummaries&prov=reuters&type=lgns
