Yes. I have read that the nation is going to host the next Euro Cup of Nations. Then, I read that some clubs are constructing new grounds as part of the preparation. What happens to the older grounds, in particular the Da Luz, das Antas, etc.?

They will be demolished. Sporting's Alvalade Stadium and Benfica's Estadio da luz are already partialy demolished. Sporting will be playing their first game in the New Alvalade stadium in July or August. Reports are saying it will be against Manchester U. The reason they are partialy demolished is because part of the New stadiums will be on the old grounds.

Thanks for the information. Wow! I read that Benfica's ground used to hold 100,000 people. Perhaps that's too big by today's standard.

I recently seen the video replays of the 1991 Youth Championship at the old Da Luz stadium. Don't know why they've decided that it's no longer viable. I was thinking that the stadium was too big for today's crowds but then they could've tried to remodel that place.

    Oh, well. Too late now.

I think they needed to prove things to UEFA. Stadiums with modern amenities, luxury suites, press boxes, better equipped for safety, etc.

But I think a scaled down stadium would be best or the club in the long run.
