It's just that they didn't do it well. They don't do anything well. I haven't seen anything they do well. The PDL team is apparently going to play all of its games save one at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, which I had never heard of. (I've heard of Costa Mesa, obviously, just not Vanguard University.)
What a stupid name, how can you have two colors in your name? Orange and blue, how is that even going to work... WTF
It's not like the Blues announcement was going to make headlines, but with the Miami news surfacing about an announcement tomorrow, the Blues are going to be thrown even further into obscurity. Here's hoping it's something more than just a city rebrand.
What on Earth would give anyone the idea that the Blues can walk and chew gum at the same time, much less make an actual major announcement? God love 'em if they do, but I can't see any reason to believe they've all of a sudden awakened from a slumber and decided to be an actual club that, you know, does stuff.
So have they quietly made their "big" announcement that no one will be paying attention to even before Beckham and Miami took all the soccer headlines nationwide for the day?
FWIW, orangecountyblues.com and ocbluessoccer.com are both still available, but ocblues.com is registered to someone overseas.
The problem with that theory is that they had been teasing this announcement since before the USL released their schedule. Chivas USA's reserve team is on the USL schedule. If they were going to affiliate, Chivas USA wouldn't have a team in the reserve league.
Should have used the sarcasm font. At this point it's pretty obvious their big news was simply to become the OC Blues. Though the word "big" was probably a mistake on their and our part.
In the meantime, here's a full preview of what's to come. #NewBluesEra pic.twitter.com/zkLf7PIi6d— Orange County SC (@orangecountysc) February 5, 2014 Announcement between 7:30 - 8:00 pm PT tonight, supposedly.
I'm not really sure wha that's a full preview of. We know the name is the Blues.....and we know that they use the color blue in their name and logo. I really hope they add a little more to the announcement than just rebranding. While I like that they rebranded to Orange County, I hope there's some news with development, stadium, marketing...you know, things that really matter with moving the club forward.
I'll be waiting for it with baited breath... You want them to develop a rocket to go to the moon too. Jeez man try asking for something that's within their ability to do.
Some are made at events at night. Of course, the Blues have enough trouble getting people to come to their actual games at night, so take that for what you will.
