Atalanta will be Sarajevo's opponent, not Fiorentina who will not be in Europe anymore after Milan were reinstated. UEFA though are allowing Atalanta to host the first leg which I don't like. Would have been better for Sarajevo to host first and pack Kosevo out, if they lose 4 or 5-0 in the first leg, I don't see that happening for the return, but it is what it is. Zeljo could have played away first instead.

    Premijer Liga started this weekend

    GOSK 0-1 Zeljeznicar
    Mladost DK 0-0 Zvijezda 09
    Krupa 3-1 Celik
    Sloboda 0-1 Zrinjski

    Radnik 2-1 Sarajevo
    Siroki Brijeg 1-0 Tuzla City

Siroki, Zeljo, and Zrinjski all starting with impressive wins, my Celik unfortunately lost , and Zvijezda 09 picked up a point in their first ever PL game. Sarajevo rested 7 starters ahead of Atalanta and paid for it.

Sarajevo resting starters in BiHPL to make sure they get an away result against Fiorentina. Husref c’mon...

I’m interested to see how Tuzla City does this year and if Azmir Husic, their owner, can help turn them into a regular competitor for the title and perhaps qualify for EL or CL in the future. I also know Husic wants to build a modern stadium, so we’ll see if that ever actually happens.

Zrinjski and Željo with poor homes results but Sarajevo, wowww!!! Probably the best result for a Bosnian club since independence. They have a realistic chance of going through now.

Zrinjski had the lead and statistically dominated the game it looks like, but let in a 90th minute equalizer to lose their advantage. Typical Zrinjski in Europe. Now they'll have to play in the summer heat of Malta and pull out a result if they are to continue their campaign which won't be easy against a defense-oriented opponent. It's a shame that they underachieve so much in Europe despite being our best club because with a draw like Valletta and potentially Videoton in the next round, they could realistically actually make the playoff round. But no, they have to make life hard for themselves and now a difficult task awaits them next week.

Zeljo lost and were honestly pretty horrible. They were outplayed in midfield, created very little going forward, and defensively looked creaky all throughout the game. Kjosevski had an awful night, crazy how often BiHPL keepers tend to make shocking mistakes in Europe. I feel like upgrading on that position alone gives most of our clubs a better chance in these games. Anyways, they're pretty much out unless they improve drastically and create a minor miracle in Cyprus which doesn't seem likely but one goal could still make things interesting.

And last but certainly not least, Sarajevo . Coming from 2-0 down to draw away to a Serie A club, incredible. Have to agree with Young Zmaj that this is the best BiH club result in Europe post-war. I felt Sarajevo could nick something on the counter given their showings in the last round, but whether they could hold up defensively was the question and aside from two soft set piece goals, they did. Hats off to Musemic and all of them. Now awaits a second leg where Kosevo should be packed and the adrenaline plus this result could see them pull off a major shock. Let's hope they can. Despite Sarajevo's embarrassments in Europe at times, they're the only BiH club that's proven capable of producing games like this and therefore still have to be considered our best representative internationally.

Sarajevo winning 4-0 despite resting 8 starters for the Atalanta game, impressive.

Celik winning was pretty great, Ornek, Huskic, and the rest of the management have done a fine job to rebuild the team after last season and that was a good performance tonight. Zeljo were awful though, they're nowhere near title contention with how they've been playing.

7,000 in attendance for Čelik-Željo, very nice.

Also good to see Sarajevo doing so well with their reserves. Resić scored again, seems like a good talent.

    Valletta 1-2 Zrinjski (Agg: 2-3)
    Apollon 3-1 Zeljeznicar (Agg: 5-2)
    Sarajevo 0-8 Atalanta (Agg: 2-10)

Zrinjski managed to atone for their slip up last week with a win in Malta, despite playing a man down for over half an hour due to an unnecessary double booking picked up by Galic. Incredible goal from the CB Barisic from distance and a deflected shot from Filipovic were enough to go through here. They now play Ludogorets, hard to see them going through that one but this is already their joint longest ever European campaign so they don't have much to lose at this point.

Zeljo looked better under their new manager Odovic, but the difference in quality was still obviously there and although this was a step up on last week's displays, it wasn't enough. Sarajevo, the less said the better on that showing, but the players giving up the way they did was pretty pitiful in front of a big crowd. Atalanta being so precise with their chances didn't help either, but conceding so many from basic set plays killed them in this tie.

    Coefficient update for 2018/19:

    Apollon Limassol (CYP): 0

    SIROKI BRIJEG
    Domzale (SVN): 1.0

    7.5/4 = 1.875

That total is our best in Europe of the current 5-year cycle and our best overall since 2010 so this was actually a positive summer overall for our clubs, but it could have been more had Zrinjski not slipped up a few games. However, the results probably indicate the level of our league at the moment and it isn't a very good reality but it's the reality of it nonetheless.

Celik with back to back 1-0 wins over the best two teams in the league from the last two seasons with a 6-0 loss to Siroki sandwiched in between. Crazy sequence of events, but the team is well on its way to achieving the target of staying up so long as they can keep making Bilino Polje a fortress.

Zrinjski already reinstated Sliskovic as manager after losing to Celik, makes me wonder why they took him out of that role to begin with? At least he's back in the dugout before the Ludogorets 2nd leg. His return along with several players back from injuries may give them a small chance here.

As far as the league goes, Zeljo top now with Odovic turning it around for them with Siroki second. Sarajevo lost the chance to go first by tieing GOSK at home, but there's a big Sarajevo derby tomorrow at Grbavica.

Tuzla City lost at home to Sloboda, guess that's another L for Azmir Husic who can't be happy with his team's season so far. Mladost, GOSK, and Zvijezda 09 all still winless. Koljic tearing it up again with 6 goals already for Krupa. That about sums the BiHPL up so far. This midweek will be interesting with the derby, Zrinjski's EL game, and the other matches going on around the league.

Closer tie than I expected, but Zrinjski's inability to score away and conceding early at home cost them again. Not much else to say as we've been here before many times.

    8/4 = 2.000

That's our best coefficient total for a season since 2002/03 so despite some real letdowns, it turned out to be our best year in over a decade and a half. This became possible thanks to the format change that allows the UCL losers from the first round to go into the Europa League rather than being eliminated from Europe completely since Zrinjski won 1/4th of our points in that competition. I feel like with some luck, this format change could make reaching the group stage for our clubs more possible, but of course we're still not all that close to doing that yet so no matter how much UEFA does to help us, we're not ready to make use of that right now...

    In the league...

    GOSK 3-2 Tuzla City
    Mladost 0-1 Siroki Brijeg
    Radnik 0-0 Celik
    Sloboda 1-0 Krupa
    Zeljeznicar 2-2 Sarajevo

Tuzla City's season not panning out as expected with another disappointing loss to a relegation contender, Siroki with a late winner away which sent them top after the derby draw, Sloboda with a nice win at home to Krupa to make it two in a row for them. Celik without a few players got a point in Bijeljina and could even have had all three, although they didn't play very well. One of the best derbies in recent years between Zeljo and FKS ended in a draw. Now that the European season is over for our clubs, the fun in the league can really begin with several teams contending for the title.

League table now at the October international break:

    1) Sarajevo - 30
    ---
    2) Zrinjski - 28
    3) Zeljeznicar - 25
    ---
    4) Siroki Brijeg - 21
    5) Sloboda - 18
    6) Radnik - 17
    7) Celik - 17
    8) Mladost - 13
    9) Tuzla City - 12
    10) Krupa - 11
    ---
    11) GOSK Gabela - 10
    12) Zvijezda 09 - 8

Sarajevo looking quite solid since the European exit. 9 wins in their last 10 games, including a 6-0 away win over Mladost at the weekend. Zrinjski is back to their champion form lately too, seems like it'll be a battle between those two teams for the title this year. Zeljo are a step below both and unlikely to keep up, unless they get some results in the two away games against those sides coming up.

My Celik is having a decent season, very good results at home so far coupled with some decent ones on the road every now and then, unlucky loss to Zeljo on Friday but unsurprising with the club's record there over the years. Sloboda doing good too but losing 3-0 at home to Zvijezda was embarrassing. Krupa are struggling without Koljic but should still have enough to stay up.

The Kup has been interesting so far. Only 3/8 teams left are BiHPL teams and they all went through on penalties in the last round. 3rd division side Klis Buturovic Polje has outlasted 75% of the league in the competition, crazy.

Big match coming up tomorrow for Sarajevo vs. Celtic. Large attendance expected, probably around 30,000 should be there. I hope they don’t shit the bed like they have against a couple other big teams lol.

It seems like Tierney is out, whether that’s due to injury or a potential transfer I’m not sure.

    Prediction:

    FK Sarajevo 1-3 Celtic

    EL 1st qualifying round:

    Akademija Pandev 0-3 Zrinjski
    Radnik 2-0 Spartak Trnava
    Široki Brijeg 1-2 Kairat

    ———

Overall, I’d say it’s a solid showing. Sarajevo looked respectable in a loss to a Celtic team that just has more quality than them. Tough draw, they would certainly be more competitive with any other team they could have drawn.

Zrinjski had an easy 3-0 away win and is practically through to the next round. Sad thing is they also drew the hardest team possible, FC Utrecht. They are likely out in the 2nd round.

Radnik pulled off a massive upset today. 2-0 win against Spartak Trnava, a team in the EL Group Stage last season. If they win this tie, they will face Lokomotiv Plovdiv. They actually have a good shot at progressing against Plovdiv as they finished 10th in the Bulgarian league but made EL qualifiers by winning their cup.

Široki Brijeg was extremely unlucky not to get a win against Kairat, let alone to not at least come away with a draw. They played a much better game and created more chances but a couple silly defensive breakdowns cost them a victory. I think they still have a shot to progress but it will be tough as they now play away in Kazakhstan.

    CL 1st Qualifying Round:

    Celtic 2-1 Sarajevo (Aggregate 5-2)

    EL 1st Qualifying Round:

Kairat 2-1 Široki Brijeg (Aggregate 4-2)
Zrinjski 3-0 Akademija Pandev (Aggregate 6-0)
Spartak Trnava 2-0 Radnik (Aggregate 2-2, Spartak won 3-2 on penalties)

    ———

Sarajevo probably saw a result that flattered them in a 2-1 loss away from home. Nonetheless, they move on to the EL 3rd Qualifying Round as they are the “Lucky Loser” and receive a bye in the 2nd round.

Široki Brijeg completely choked a 1-0 lead. They scored a penalty very late and then in extra time gave up two goals in two minutes. A win or draw would at least have helped with our league coefficient even if the result wouldn’t help them progress. I can’t remember the last time Široki Brijeg has done even decent in Europe.

Zrinjski had an easy 3-0 win and move onto the next round. Tough fixture ahead of them as they face FC Utrecht. I hope they at least can get a draw or a win over two legs to help with league coefficient.

Radnik was through to the next round until an 87’ mistake by the keeper gifted Spartak a goal. They went all the way to penalties where both teams were really poor but Spartak come out on top.

    EL 2nd Qualifying Round

Zrinjski 3-2 Utrecht (aggregate, after extra time)

    ———

Amazing result from Zrinjski, first a 1-1 draw in Holland. Then they drew 1-1 in the return fixture, leading to extra time. A goal during extra time saw them win on aggregate in a big upset.

In the EL 3rd Qualifying Round:

    Sarajevo vs BATE

    Zrinjski vs Malmo

Both Sarajevo and Zrinjski are underdogs but they still have a chance to progress. I’d say Zrinjski is more likely because Sarajevo currently have a lot of injuries.

FK Mladost's right-back - Nemanja Nikolić (18) - has been getting offers from both Dinamo Zagreb and Crvena Zvezda. The former's being more lucrative atm.

His current contract lasts until 2021.

Shakthar Donetsk also had him on trail with them the most recent winter break, but the teams couldn't reach an agreement over the transfer fee.

Club's president - Mensur Mušija - said he'll start with the negotiations after returning from holiday. He's doing a great job taking care of this small club and keeping them in the highest division as along as possible. This is their 5th year!

Some of the club's recent transfers:
    • Nemanja Anđušić - - > Trabzonspor.
    • Petar Bojo - - > FK Željezničar.
    • Aladin Šišić - - > FK Sarajevo.
    • Geodon Guzina - - > FK Sarajevo.
    • Filip Arežina - - > Lokomotiva Zagreb.
    • Abid Mujagić - - > Zrinjski Mostar.
    • Goran Brkić - - > Olimpija Ljubljana.
It's either the top 3 in Bosnia or decent ones abroad. Only thing that "Bosanski Hoffenheim" needs to fix, and that asap, is...

FK Sarajevo played an uninspiring game against the Nomads, despite the scoreline being 0-2 (Tatar scored both). The full game is on YT. The starting line-up was

    Ahmetovic

    Tatar -- Rahmanovic -- Jukic

    Djokanovic -- Oremus

    Salcin -- Milicevic -- Dupovac -- Hodzic

    Kovacevic

In my opinion, FKS's game vs Dynamo Brest is the most important game in the last 10 years because of what it offers us going forward. Of course, we've lost to clubs from Albania, Moldova, and Montenegro so we can't think 'if this then that' too much. The Dynamo Brest game comes at a time when Dynamo Brest just decimated Astana, which play EL group stages each year. It also comes at a time when we are missing our key players in Susic and Serbecic and when our form is far from great. Another factor is that Dynamo Brest players will have 2 extra days of rest because they played their regular-season game on Friday and we played Velez today.

The game vs FK Velez is also on YT. The game ended 1 - 1. Velez does not seem to be a bad team at all, at least in this game. If they can keep playing like this, I wouldn't be surprised at all with them grabbing an EL-qualifying spot. But still FKS cannot be too happy about this result before the Dynamo Brest game. The starting lineup was

    Handzic

    Jukic -- Mustedanagic -- Tatar

    Oremus -- Susic

    Salcin -- Milicevic -- Dupovac -- Hodzic

    Kovacevic

As a team, FKS was not very precise in the defensive third and were giving away free kicks from dangerous spots. Offensively, FKS dominated possession, at 62%, but failed to create enough quality chances, with 2 shots on target for the entire game (14 off-target). Jukic scored the goal in the 2nd half from a perfect Handzic pass which was either brilliant or extremely lucky, probably the latter.

Individually, Hodzic stood out as pretty bad defensively and his mistake ultimately led to the goal. Susic, who played a little more than a half, looked like he was not ready to even play a full half, which makes sense because this was his first game back from injury. Maybe he's ready for about 30 minutes. Serbecic did not play, but I heard the commentator say that he should be ready for Dynamo Brest. It's good news, but obviously he won't be 100%. Fanimo looks like he has lots of potential. I'd like to see what he can do when he catches some serious form.

Seems like Brest isn't doing too well in their league at the moment, 10th place in the league (out of 16). I wonder if political events at home will factor into their gameplay as well, could cause them not to be completely into it.

I thought Salcin was a midfielder, when did they switch him to LB? Is Fanimo expected to play? He had good season.

It must have happened within the last one year. Maybe Marinovic judged that Salcin would have a higher ceiling at LB. Either that or he just needed Salcin to cover LB while Pidro recovered. In any case, Salcin seems fine at LB and can cross the ball pretty well most of the time. I'd like to see more of what he can do defensively when under pressure. We'll see what happens when Pidro gains form, whether Salcin will go back into the midfield.

Fanimo has been getting consistent and decent time from the bench. So that's likely to be the case against Dynamo Brest as well.
