In terms of the Asian league rankings, I don't get it... REALLY, I just don't get it! On what criteria is this based on again? Um, no disrespect to the rankings (ha ha), but I think they're crap, and they don't mean a damn thing which will be VERY apparent by the time AFC Champions League comes around.
damn the AFC Championship, no Jubilo means I have to cheer for Shimizu or Kashima, I think that I might be cheering for the Korean club teams instead!
LOL. These rankings are a joke. Iraq and Uzbekistan? The top four should should consist of Korea, Japan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
According to the IFFHS, they compute their ranking by adding up the total points won in all competitions by the top 5 teams in the league. In other words, their ranking is pure crap. In this thread, I demonstrate it beyond any doubt: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=27309
I understand the resentment against Antlers, but why S-Pulse? They haven't really been anything to envy. Their orange kits are quite disgusting though!! At any rate, I see Antlers battling it out w/ one of the Korean teams for the title. Should be good.
add the two Iranian teams in there. As for K-League teams, only Sungnam has a bit of a chance. Daejeon somehow won the FA Cup last year but came DEAD LAST this season and last season. Lucky for them K-League doesn't have the relegation system coz Daejeon would have been relegated long time ago.
well, I kinda hesitated, but my ranking was also considered the general strurcture of the leagues. According to that, the C-League and UAE League seemed more professional in my view. The C-League has become a huge market over the past years and the UAE League, well, we know they are good at investing (they just got Nigerian international Taribo West). They've already got Iranian internationals like Daei, Karimi, and Nekunam(?), right? I believe the top teams in the IPL could easily handle the teams from the C-League and the UAE League, but considering that it has been a little over a year (am I correct?) since the league became professional, the league in general was hard to recognize over the C-League.
Oh I thought you meant team wise, if you mean profeissional wise and structural wise, then you are probably right. Half of our National team plays in UAE becuase they pay a lot, and Nekounam is not in UAE he still plays for Pas Tehran.
Iraqs league is not all that, but what can you expect from a league of a country smacked by world sanctions. However, they have produced some very nice Asian Competitors and for that I give Iraqi League big ups. Teams like Al-Zawra have a good history in ACC games. But recently there seems to have been a bit of a decline of Iraqi clubs, quite opposite to the great growth of their National Team.
I see. Could you tell me the list of other Iranian internationals who play in the UAE other than Daei and Karimi? also, are there any non-national-team Iranian players playing at the UAE league?
Just wait till next years Champions League so Jubilo will show how old they are getting, and how their only scorer will be an Nakayama getting close to retirement!
Did you know that the only club in China which actually makes a yearly profit regularly is shenhua. Even Dalian loses money.
Who isn't losing money in football? The vast majority of clubs around the world are losing money each year. In Serie A last season, for example, only Juve was making any money.
Red and Blue: Since Iran NT has not played in a competitive tournament for a while now, it is hard to say what our NT exactly consists of right now. But IN UAE we have: Ali Daei and Mehrdad Minavand (Al-Shabab) Daei of course is an Iranian International, and Minavand is also. Minavand is in the twlight of his career, eventhough he is only 28 or so, the level of his football has gone down drastically. Daei was injured in the begining of the season and just recently came back, that is why Shabab is at the bottom of the table right now. But Daei has scored 7 goals in 6 UAE league matches. Farhad Majidi and Hamed Kavianpour (Al-Wasl) Kavinapour is a NT player, and he came over from Perspolis in the off season, he is not doing so well and will probably return to Pers. next season. Majidi is not a national team player, but he scores regulalry for Wasl and is among the top scorers in the league. Ali Karimi and Javad Kazemian (Al-Ahli) Both NT players, Kazemian was one of Iran's best palyers in Busan, he is only 20 years old. Karimi is arguablly the best player in UAE right now, but no doubt he is the most popular. Kazemian recently came over to Ahli from Saipa Tehran, he is on a 6 month contract and he is impressing and scoring goals regulalry. Hamburg SV is eyeing him. Ahli was first place until Karimi got injured a few weeks ago. Karimi will be out for a few more weeks, and due to this injury, he also missed the World All stars vs Juve match, that is a shame becuase he could have impressed at a international level. Karimi got injured becuase he got tackled violently by some player.
And I dont know what to make of the UAE league as a whole. They have stars such as West, Weah, Christian, Sergio, Daei and Karimi, but genarally it is weak and the matches are boring.
Generally, I think all sports teams are losing money, except those that are able to sell lots and lots of branded merchandise - ManU, NY Yankees, etc.
I remember some Iranian guy say that he used to play at an Austrian club and his ability boasted so much. That was like 1.5 years ago. Or am I talking about someone different?
