I think Bolivia's Gato Fernandez should get an honorable mention after the show he put on in Copa America.
At this moment, in Venezuela everybody is saying that the best goalkeeper is "Javier Toyo" goalie of CaracasFC.
Pato is decent but with the seleccion he wasn't too great, heres a FIRST-i agree with ILC, cordoba is much better
nobody has mentioned Jose Ceballos of Ecuador, he was a huge part of ecuador's success in gettting to Japan/Korea 2002...i would rather have him than El Pato, Dida, Henao, Julio Cesar or Mondragon...the only one i see as better than Ceballos is Cordoba.
amen! this guy shut out brazil's A team, kept them at 1 when ecuador visit brazil last year, and argentina only managed 1 against him. this guy is consistant as consistant can be, has a great mentality and excellent instincts! doesn't get the attention some others do coz he plays in ecuador, but i would rank Cevallos higher than most keepers fo sho!
yup, Cordoba kept a shut out (0 - 0) in Colombia against Brazil in the last qualifyers, and we lost 1 - 0 in Brazil, goal at the last minute... I haven't seen him play in a long time, I imagine his level is still way down..........
Jose Cevallos was an amazing goalkeeper i can't believe they did not add him to the poll, Jose F Cevallos was the main reason Barcelona S.C made it to the final of the 1998 Copa Libertadores he kept Barcelona alive during the semifinal game between Cerro Porteno plus it went to a penalty shootout and Barcelona won because of him.
All-time greats: 1. Roque Maspoli (Maracanazo! Enough said) 2. Chilavert (Who doesn't hate this guy? I'm pretty sure the only ones who love him are the Velez faithful, Bianchi, and Paraguayans. I hate his azz! But you have to recognise the best and this guy was the shiat. He scored penalties, he stopped penalties, he scored free kicks. Just an amazing keeper) 3. "Pato" Fillol (A great one. World Cup Winner with Argentina in '78. He's also doing a decent job coaching Racing Club) 4. Gilmar (tall motherfuker. great keeper) 5. Taffarel (Great one with Brazil. World Cup Winner in '94 where he stopped a penalty in the final. He was a great one with Atletico Mineiro where they also won the Copa Conmebol) 6. Higuita (He was horrible with defence but his craziness, his dribbling outside the box, and his amazing moves including the scorpion are trademark. Just for that he deserves a spot) The ones that were great but not all-time greats: 1. "Loco" Gatti (Great one with boca. fan favourites of the xeneizes. Also crazy out of the box, dribbling, and amazing moves kind of guy) 2. Goycochea (penalty god in WC Italy '90) 3. Nery Pumpido (WC winner in '86. Good keeper with good hands) 4. Siboldi (Good uruguayan goalkeeper) 5. Navarro Montoya (Safe and reliable keeper) 6. Nelson Tapia (Little chilean midget can fly! He is a reliable keeper) 7. Carlos Trucco (Let's not forget about the bolivians just because they are bolivians people! Great keeper. He was a safe bet in the goal) 8. Dudamel (Good keeper. This venezuelan had something in him. He was the leader of the national team. If it wasn't for how sucky Venezuela were at the time, he would've been even better. He was one of the few that played outside of Venezuela. Spain if i'm not mistaken) The recent ones that can be great: 1. Abbondanzieri 2. Cordoba 3. Dida 4. Calero 5. Carini 6. Zevallos 7. Henao 8. Constanzo 9. Lux 10. Mondragon 11. Munua 12. Julio Cesar
Dida...AC Milan #1...no doubt... He also had to beat out a great keeper for the starting job in Abbiati...
El Pato # 1 LOL!! I don't want to be rude but he is no where near top 5 material.Pablo Cavallero is better keeper than El Pato. I don't see anything else that I don't agree with your list except that I'll rank Dida #1 right now.
having bad dates with river! welcome here..... BTW --- last wk the fans from boca Jrs voted oscar cordoba as the most popular keeper EVER with the team colors! from the poll at the official web site
most likely! he gets more love in buenos aires that in Colombia...... specially after the last gifts to crespo in barranquilla and the way he acted to set his defense in la Paz (4-0 )
Re: Justo Villar you know what, I was reading that theres the chance of him coming back, all depends on his injury, I don't know if Reinaldo would contemplate that idea, he is very serious about his dicisions. You know that only Oscar at his best would dethrone Calero.
