I was making a list of the best Real Madrid players decade by decade (remembering that the decade starts in year 1 and ends in year 0, therefore the decade of 50, for example, starts in year 51 and ends in year 60). In my research these are the names I have considered so far: 50s Di Stefano 60s Puskás 70s Pirri 80s Butragueño 90s Hierro 00s Raul 10s Cristiano I would like to discuss with you guys whether for example Hugo Sanchez would be ahead of Butragueño on 80s and Zidane over Raul in 00s. Constructive criticism is welcome.
Good choice. I put him there for his longevity but Casillas also had longevity and more consistency. Would Santillana or Buyo be at the top of some decade for you?
Raul's prime was 1995-2003. I think that's the standard longevity for offensive players those days until Ron and Messi took it to another level. I'd pick Iker in 2000s as well. 50s Di Stefano 60s Puskás 70s Pirri 80s Butragueño 90s Hierro 00s Iker 10s Cristiano
I think Pirri is the more acclaimed player than Santillana in 70s. Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad won two La ligas each from 80-84 and Barca won in 85 so it was a lull period for RM. Santillana was close to retirement during the golden era of La Quinta. Butragueno and Hugo Sanchez were the superstars of La Quinta era. Buyo pretty important like Sanchis and Michel. I will have Butragueno as the star of 80s as well.
