After the 2022 World Cup, Messi became the first player in history to be selected as the best player in 2 different tournaments (of course, there is room for discussion in 2014). I think this can be a good discussion for friends to express their opinion All the players I put in the poll had at least 2 very good tournaments and won the championship I didn't bring Mbappe because he still has a place and can raise his position I will be happy to give your opinion
Looking at "modern times", I note that R9 probably had three very good tournaments. Yet he was probably outshined by Zidane in two of those, which has me thinking Zidane should be at the top of the list. At least as far as the last 33 years are concerned. Pre-1990 is before my time, which makes it difficult to compare.
Yes I agree with you R9 was most assist in 1998 World cup Was most goal in 2002 World cup and was best player in 1998 and maybe 2002
Pelé scored in both the finals that he played in, being decisive along those tournaments. Twelve years apart, by the way. Can we talk about the second best?
I really only know 2 players who deserve to be the best of this cup, one is Pele and the other is Maradona Look, Pele played 4 games in the first 2 cups he won and 2 games in the second That is, in the 2 times when Brazil won the championship, Pele only played half of the games But Maradona was on the field second by second in every match he attended But Pele deserves this because of his excellent performance in the final and recording one of the top 5 performances in history in 1970.
As my first World Cup memories are from 1978, I can say that Maradona is, by some distance, the best player I have seen, having watched it all on TV as it was happening. There have been some greats since his retirement, though.
I would have given the Golden Ball to Neuer or Lahm personally, but I can sort of understand why they gave it to Messi. But Neuer as sweeper keeper against Algeria put in one of the most iconic performances I have ever seen from a goalkeeper. James was great though. He immediately became one of my favorite players during that WC, I supported Brazil at the beginning of the tournament but by the time the QFs rolled around I was team Colombia all the way, loved James and that Colombian team. If Colombia had gotten through that QF against Brazil, I would definitely say that James could've been a contender for Golden Ball. I was very disappointed when Colombia missed out on Qatar, hope they will return with something to prove in 2026.
