Hi Lads, I was looking at the results from the Champions League over the last 5 years. Spain and Germany were represented the most often in the final four. Spanish teams made the final four, 9 times and German teams made the final four 5 times. The others: France-1 Ukraine-1 Italy -2 England-3
A little more In the five years of 93-97 the final four appearances are as follows: Italian Clubs: 5 times French : 4 times Dutch: 3 times Germans: 2 Spain:1 Portugal:1 Greece:1 Sweden:1 Scots:1 England:1 It looks the dominating clubs ebb and flow. The most recent 5 years were dominated by the Spaniards and Germans, the five years prior saw good results from the Italians and French. I wonder what the years between 88 and 92 look like?
Re: Re: A little more Lads, Here is your answer for Champions League Final Four Appearances between 88 and 92. I believe this era was probably a little more indicative of an era where players mostly played in their own domestic leagues. Spain 3 Italy 3 Yugo 2 France 2 Germany 2 Portugal 2 Romania 2 Russia 1 Czech 1 Turks 1 Dutch 1 England 0
IIRC, The 5 year ban on English clubs in European competition coincided with 88 - 92. Which distorts these records just a bit.
I always knew Italy and Spain were the best. All the other leagues should seriously just pack it in and give it up. All the players currently there should get work at the local burger king, b/c they are obviously waaaay to overrated to play in a serious league like La Liga or Serie A.
Captain, I was definitely not aware of that. I will take your word for it. Thanks for the info. Why was the ban in effect?
I was not following England football at the time, but suspect that it had to do with hooliganism. I became a fan of the Premiership in the mid 90's when they started bringing in more exciting players to the league.
No. Its obvious that he isn't. Look at who he supports. According to thier books, football didn't start until 93.
Clanblue, I like good football. Period. Forget that I have ManU as my favorite. I have not bothered to change it. Fergie tinkered too much. Barthez is not a world class keeper, Veron does not seem to fit and is homesick for Lazio, and dropping Stam was a big mistake.
I think Spain has the best football in Europe. At least so far this year. Spanish teams are beating English teams in the Champs League.
I'm not going to pick on you-i'll leave that to the many others that are only to happy to jump down somebodys throat-but, i find it strange that you have never once come across the fact of the ban? Are you the geezer that i was talking to one day and had never heard of Kerry Dixon?
But wait a minute Einstein. Roma just beat Real M....so i guess by your logic then Italian teams are playing the best football in Europe....but wait a sec, didn't Wales just beat Italy.................AH there we have it... WELSH FOOTBALL IS THE BEST
the spanish league is the best in the last 5 years they have the best record in european competitions at this period
Clearly MLS is the best league in Europe. Why, right after Bayern Munich won Europe a few years back, they were thrashed by MetroStars. And let's not forget that DC United romped to victory at Tottenham a few weeks ago.
But isn't all this irrelevant because Real Madrid has a bunch of foreigners: Macca (English) Figo (Portuguese) Zidane (French) Roberto Carlos (Brazilian) Makelele (Dutch) Ronaldo (Brazilian) So, are they really a Spanish team?
anybody can beat spurs it's not such a big deal but if the MLS mentioned i have to say that i find the matches there very atractive and i can add the Metros beat Boca Juniors 3-2 a few months ago
