As the football season draws to a close, I want to ask you guys: who do you think has been the best Korean performer in Europe this year? You can choose your answer based on performance, improvement, recognition, statistics, results, silverware, etc.
Personally, I think it's between Ki Sung Yueng and Koo Ja Cheol. I know that KSY's form has tapered off somewhat in the latter part of Celtic's season, but during the first half he was fantastic. His vision and passing has proved to be a real asset to Celtic's title win, and his deliveries from set pieces have caused all sorts trouble. His shooting has also really improved, and scored a few screamers throughout the season. My favorite was against Motherwell in September (or was it August). A teammate passes him the ball from about 20 yards, and he strikes it first time with the outside of his foot. The ball curls from left to right, away from the GK, and into the bottom corner of the goal. This guy will be quality wherever he is next season. KJC started the season quietly at Wolfsburg, mostly because rarely got much playing time. Everything changed when he went on loan to Augsburg, where he was able to play regularly. His dribbling, passing, and shooting has since markedly improved. Most importantly, he looked confident whenever he bombed foreward with the ball. He recorded (please correct me if I'm wrong) 5 goals and 2 assists in 15 appearances; in terms of goals to game ratio, he is Augsburg's top scorer this season...and he's a midfielder. I still remember his goal against Mainz: a flick on (I think it was by Molders) controlled with one touch, and then struck so cleanly on the volley. The ball flew into the top corner while the GK just stood there, amazed. Along with KSY's goal against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final last year, that has got to be the most beautiful goal I've seen scored by a Korean player in Europe in a long while. He helped revive a struggling Augsburg team and pull themselves out of relegation. I hear that there's interest in KJC from other Bundesliga teams, but apparently he will first head back to Wolfsburg to discuss his future with them. Whatever happens to him in the summer, I hope he can still play regularly next season, for I believe he can be our next big name player.
1. KJC (need explanation? ?) 2. PJH (full season + UCL) 3. KSY (could have been a fabulous season but faded away)
I dunno. It was not a banner year for Koreans in Europe. All the comments have their points, if you *have* to award it to someone. I feel like saying, "nobody."
Yep, this pretty much sums up what I think as well. It has been a thoroughly underwhelming year for KPAs and the KNT...
well obviously the loss of watching LCY tear up the EPL put a huge damper on our players aboad long with the PJY saga. PJS getting shafted for shit players like ashley young half the season. imma say Kim Bo-Kyung.
http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3985...ol-park-ji-sung-the-top-five-south-koreans-in This article apparently agrees with me I would have also included Park Joo Ho in that list though, instead of either JDW or PJS. Other than one or two moments of glory, neither had a truly decent season.
Because Park Jooho hasn't done jack shit. And if he has done anything noteworthy, we didn't see it because he plays in Sweden Serbia Swaziland wherever it is he plays in. His performances against Nani and Robben under a complete fck-up mode may have impressed the two of you, but the reality is most other fans in the world have higher standards for footballers. The whole 'best performer out of a batch of random players playing in different positions in leagues all around Europe' thing doesn't mean very much anyways. I would give more respect to the opinions of Basel fans. If possible, let's hear how they evaluate his contribution to the team throughout the season.
I have a hard time believing that anyone would believe that PJH did worse than JDW's aimless minutes at Sunderland. However stupid the original article's concept is
I doubt anyone believe that Park Jooho did any worse than the worst of the crop either, what's your point?
for me he was on the best team so it's easy to say he is the best. although he was mostly solid he didn't do anything noteworthy. plus I have a hard time giving the best player award to a left back.
