anyone have a vote for the best high school team ever assembled? i recall a team from la canada, ca, that went 50-0 in the mid 90s over 2 seasons and dominated all. they sent something like 9+ guys to d1 schools but none of them ever made it real big. pretty sure they were usatoday national champs each of those years. I dont think there are any links on the internet regarding this team.
Neuqua Valley and New Trier out of Illinois are very good. both with a few national players and quite a few Region II players
Grimsley High School out of Greensboro, North Carolina Our lineup includes a national pool player, a handful of odp players, and everyone is from the same club organization, we all know eachother's names, all about eachother, weaknesses, strengths, and what have you. we are best in the state this year in my opinion.
gotta go with my hometown boys, Oak Mountain High School, who were the #1 ranked team in the nation this past spring, after going 25-0-2 and winning the state championship with an easy 6-0 victory. probably not close to being the most talented team in the nation, but definitely a very good "team" that plays very well together.
nequa and new trier both have good teams, but this year, waubonsie is gonna be really good. they have players from wind, magic, and sockers. i cant wait to play them this year.
Pretty interesting info. I live in Naperville and would be happy to see either WV or NV do well. Go Dist. 204! However, my vote goes to my alma mater, Klein High School in Spring, TX Though I played football for KHS back when the NASL had just died off, the soccer program had always been solid. Football is king in Texas, too bad because our soccer program actually won hardware. The school has always been near or at the top of its region and has made it to several quarterfinals, semifinals and state championships. KHS has won three Texas State Championships over the years that I'm aware - 1997, 1999 and 2005. The KHS program has had only one coach since the soccer program began (1983 I think), Coach Allen Baker. Coach Baker has over 500 wins to his credit. The 2005 Kats, ranked #1 in Texas and #3 in the nation. Check out the website to see their impressive stats. Man, I should've focused on soccer instead of football. http://www.bearkatsoccer.com/
Usually belmont out of Washington State i think, but i would be willing to put White Oak HS (eastern NC team, and NC Fall 04 3A State Champs) against them this year or even last year, i dont think that belmont is good enough for the #1 spot and i think that teams should pretty much challenge them for it b/c its b.s. how the rankings are done, if your record is virtually undefeated, and you are at least a 2A school, you get ranked top 20, yet if you murder every team come playoff time and lose only 4 season matches but win states, you done even get ranked, but i wouldnt be surprised to see white oak in the top five at the end of this fall season...
(cross posted from thread above) Here's my vote for the best high school team in recent memory: Two years ago, Brooks School won the N.E. Prep school championship. They went 15-0 in the Independant School League (ISL). No team had ever gone undefeated before. Their starting strikers were Charlie Davies (U-20 National team, rookie of the year in the Big East last year) and Mike Fucito (Region 1 team, rookie of the year, Ivy League last year). Along with their center mid who is a regional team player (attending Dartmouth this year) all 3 played for the 1985/86 Bolts who were the number one club team in the US two years ago. On that squad were at least 5 other players from the MA or NH state teams.
St Anthonys in NY is top team in country now they are currently ranked 4th in nation and are awesome with national, regional, and state teams.
I realize this is going back a few years but I think the 1989 and 1990 St. Benedicts teams of Newark, NJ takes the cake IMO. 1989 22-0, 104GF 1GA, #2 USA Today 1990 25-0, #1 USA today As far as players the Graybees fielded Claudio Reyna, Greg Berhalter, Peter Villegas (played for the Metrostars), Pedro Lopes (All-American at Rutgers in the early 90's), Richie Dunn (I think he went to play at UNC or Duke) to name a few. I had the priviledge of playing against these guys in 1990. We had a strong hs team, St. Benedicts toyed around with us for 90 minutes beating us 2-0.
You could say Martin luther king HS in NYC they went years without a loss. NY Times loved them. They would have kids in their school playing who lived outside the HS zone so they cheated I am sure no other HS ever did that right? Could not get them to play our club team under 15 one of the best teams in the country at the time. How would it look if they lost what can their coach say to their little HS senior kids to explain it away
CBC high school in St. Louis Missouri. Had a Gatorade Athelete of the year who goes to SLU State champs in Missouri last year. Preranked #1 in the nation last year Pre ranked #2 in the nation this year Most of the team is composed of seniors who played as sophmore and juniors. Most play on the same club soccer team who are nationally recognized. 9 players on Missouri ODP ('88)
St. Ignatius in Cleveland Ohio. Were state champs last year and are undefeated this year so far, and were and are ranked #1 in the state.
Martin Luther King HS has a very good team, went without a loss for awhile and PSAL Champions- 1996,1997,1998,2000,2001,2002,2003,2004 Finalist-1999 Semi Finalist-1995
Bradenton Academy (2000) Many members from the '82 national team and IMG combined to make this super team that many college coaches would drool over. Beasley, Yi just to name a few.
Would not suprise me if it wasn't the private school out of Minn. that had Lagos brothers and Sanneh, couple of other pro's if I remember right. There club team won U19 at nationals. I remember watching them on t.v. and they crushed some Cali team like 9-1 in the finals.
was that Sandia High School not Sandia Prep? I went to SHS for one semester, 1980...the first year they had a team.
Due to the disjointed nature of the HS soccer season, it is impossible to say who is best or not. Different climates, times of year of play, other sports being in the way, etc. If you ever want to make a truly national list, or have any idea of a #1, need to decide on a single season of play across the country for *all* HS soccer teams. -James
