So, Norway's Utland takes the early lead with a rocket vs Nigeria. But does the craptastic keeping negatively impact the quality of the goal?
Well, it can be early to talk about "best goal", but Giulia Gwinn's one from today vs China was quite nice. We could chose something along the line of a top three for each matchday (I mean for each round of games played by all teams of all groups)?
This videos are geo-blocked by Fox in some country (like mine) but I anyway like the idea to put them in the thread!
The first-ever goal at the #FIFAWWC for #BanyanaBanyana was a sublime finish by @Kgatlanathe1st! An early contender for @Hyundai_Global #GoaloftheTournament? My candidate for best goal of the '19 WWC so far: Asisat Oshoala superb finish from a tight angle after 18 year old Chidinma Okeke's awesome run & evasion of her marker: https://cc.sporttube.com/embed/W5fCCCG/no-preload Unfortunately all other versions of this goal posted on Twitter are geoblocked for me. The footwork by Oshoala is what makes this one so special, many players fail to score at such angle. The assist is also great.
time stamp 1:30 (btw. these are very poor highlights showing even game when the match was anything but, Korea dominated but was undone by dubious PK's)
As @SiberianThunderT noticed in another thread, we're not talking enough about the goals. One of those I liked best in this last batch of matches was Ajara Nchout's second vs New Zealand: collected, technical, accurate; she has beaten alone half defense and the GK. And how cold-blooded you are when you put such a beauty together at the last minute of additional time? Most players from other teams (we had some examples) would have frantically and randomly sent the ball towards the goal as soon as they'd get it: Nchout had the nerves of steel to do everything with a maximum of calm and composure. Bravo! One of the best goals so far! A chapter apart for the goals "that could have been" and didn't happen instead: Debinha's back-heel acrobatics that were saved by Giuliani in Brazil-Italy and Van de Donk's bicycle kick that went a little too high over the crossbar in Netherlands-Canada could have become the poster children of this World Cup, had they gone in!
My vote for best goal in group stage goes to Cameroon's Nchout second goal vs. New Zealand. Girl broke some ankles!!
