I'm partial to a few... Giggs vs Arsenal 99 FA Cup Semi Final replay.. That goal by Bergkamp Roberto Carlos that Freekick against France Gasgoine Euro 2000 lifted ball over defender and volley Rivaldo's divine hattrick ooh ooh and Dino Baggio's shot from a mile in the 94 world cup
Van Basten volley against Russia at Euro88 final Best goal ever in any final imo (coud be slighty biased)
Pele's first goal vs. Sweden in the 1958 final - lifting the ball over the last defender and then a volley into the net. Ari Haan vs. Italy in 1978 - a great shot from 35-40 meters out Maradona's first goal vs. England in 1986 - Maradona beats half the English team single handily to score one of the best goals in WC history, but only the second most famous goal of the game. Carlos Alberto vs. Italy in 1970 - Nice buildup, sublime pass by Pele and a world class finish by Carlos Alberto. Four different type of goals, all on the highest stage the world has to offer. Depending on what type you like, one of them is probably the "best goal ever".
Here are videos to the goals that have been mentioned: Gascoigne- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bShEiqtr83E R. Carlos- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5XpXU8TBoo Giggs- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAfP0Jzzq7U Bergkamp- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBDOsClJLbM Van Basten- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9hK8b1BsKQ I also like: Baggio vs. Czechoslovakia at Italia '90 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqitJgMNIls Clarence Seedorf for Real http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hoR0Z04Sws
While long-range goals, volleys and team moves are all great, I personally prefer 'individual' goals that contain skill and a bit of cunning. I also like goals where the player opens himself out to make the angle for himself when putting the finishing touch to a flowing move. Meh, here's some to look at... Bergkamp versus Newcastle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx16VA0NTZI&search=Bergkamp Newcastle Ibrahimovic versus Italy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_UcNyIWMP4&search=Ibrahimovic Italy That Zlatan solo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ITRuG1jK8Q&search=Ibrahimovic Cantona chip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suoSoKbcrEM&search=Cantona Rooney versus Newcastle (chip) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZD78UmQ3Jo&search=Rooney Newcastle
Another of my favourites. I never looked at Dabizas the same way again (poor man was just in the right place at the wrong time).
@ Leto In fairness to him and the rest of the defense, we could easily have a greatest goal against Newcastle competition. There are loads of candidates!
Arie Haan for Holland at WC 78 against Italy. The shot came from around 40 metres and the shot went past the greatest keeper of all-time, Dino Zoff.
There's a couple more in here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-b01xfi1yI&search=le tissier The second one in the compilation is my personal favourite.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xu4MpEsLmPo&search=okocha a young Jay Jay Okocha, playing with Oli Kahn...
Definitely for me, are two goals I've never before seen duplicated, to any degree, shape or form on a football pitch: My favourite Manuel Negrete scissors kick vs. Bulgaria in WC86 Number 2 Eder vs. the Soviet Union in WC82. I dare anyone to say they've seen goals like these before. Look at the build-up to both of these goals.
I dont think there is a doubt over what was the greatest goal ever..one we will never see again... http://youtube.com/watch?v=BHTE0uK8JIw&search=inter falcao 1976. Brazilian Semi Finals. In extra time...a much needed goal...which took Inter to the finals...which they won. Falcao..the greatest goal ever.
Last day of La Liga 1999/2000 season Barcelona-Valencia score level at 2-2 89' A draw sends Valencia to the CL the following season. Barca needs a win for CL qualification http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l42kAtvetMI&
that Rivaldo bycicle kick is just...unreal somebody here mentioned the name of the defender Bergkamp tricked with that sublime touch, I was wondering about that yesterday. Could have well been a good defender but this touch just reduces him to a....well a tree really My favorite, for estethic value is not van Basten's goal against Russia but his goal against FC den Bosch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av8R3XK5iok&search=van%20basten Especially in the replay you see the sheer perfectness of his motion. It's how this should be done.
Some time ago I saw the goal on what I think was the BNN website where teh asked about the best goal ever scored for Oranje.
