Harte in ahead of Beglin or even Finnan Ted!? Irwin gets my vote regardless, since Beglins career was cut rather short.

Read it, it's best full back, period.
As for McGrath, well he played all over the place, midfield, full back, center half. But I think he will be best remembered as a center half.

As for Beglin versus Harte, Beglin had a rather short career for Ireland while Harte has been around for a while and among active players, he is second to Robbie Keane in goals scored.

Bearing in mind that I never saw Cantwell, Langan, or Hughton play, my limited vote went to Irwin - for class, consistency, versatility, professionalism, and the timeframe involved.

I'd have to give the nod to Irwin. Just look at his level of consistency for both club and country.

On the subject of full backs, there's a prominent piece in the Guardian this morning linking Stevie Finnan with a £4m move to Liverpool.

Would love to see it come off, he's never going to achieve anything more than a couple of rounds of the UEFA Cup (via the Intertoto) with Fulham.

Although thinking about it that might be all he could expect at Liverpool too.......

I'm not sure how good a move it would be for Finnan. Obviously Liverpool are a great club and the more players we have playing for the major teams the better, but Houllier always seems a bit McCarthy like to me with his odd tactics, playing players in strange positions etc.

I can't believe that I forgot to add Steve Staunton to the list, but then again he play prominently in midfield and center back too.

don't hold stuipid poiuntles polls like this. Everyone knows its Irwin and anyone who says otherwise is a fool. How anyone can consider him worse than players like Ian Harte or Steve Finnan is a dope. The man was the best left/right back in europe for the past ten + years. Anyone will tell you this don't pretend to be stupid because theres just no argument against him.

This is what it is. It is an opinion poll. You have the opinion that Irwin was the best, but other people think differently. Just because someone thinks differently than you doesnt mean that they are a fool. But maybe they are in your eyes.
So I presume you didnt vote, because you think it's pointless, right?

27.03% of the voters will tell you that Irwin wasn't the best. Fair enough.
