I'm looking for a country that's pretty damn good at football but has never played in The World Cup. I don't know whats the best one I'm thinking of places like Guatemala,Ukraine,Ghana,Ivory Coast. What do you all think ?

Most countries have already qualified and the one who haven't are mostly just mediocre. Also add Finland, Iceland and Zambia to that list.

    Has Wales ever qualified?

(I suspect they will in '06...)

Is Zambia the team that looked like it was headed to Italia '90 but on the way to (or from) a qualifier, the plane crashed, killing everyone on board? I'll have to go back to my DVD again but what a tragedy.

I can't believe Ghana hasn't made the World Cup, but their senior sides never did fulfill the youth sides' potential.

Oh, and Bhutan, but defenitely not Montserrat. At least Bhutan's Top 200.

With all the changes in Europe in the last 10-15 years, this question is not as straightforward as it seems, as my choices will suggest.

I would pick the Czech Republic. I don't believe they've played in the WC since they've become an independent country (did not qualify in 94, 98 or 02, IIRC). Of course, as Czechoslovakia (a combo of the current Czech Republic and Slovakia), they've made it.

A second choice would be the Ukraine, but they have the same issues as does the Czech Republic (they've made the WC as part of the USSR).

I have to agree with Wales.

They have just beaten Italy and with players like these and others from the EPL they have a good a chance as most.

    Paul Jones,
    Mark Crossley
    Mark Delaney
    Andrew Melville
    Simon Davies
    Andy Johnson
    Craig Bellamy
    Ryan Giggs,
    Robbie Savage,
    Mark Pembridge,
    Andy Melville
    Gareth Taylor
    Iwan Roberts
    and John Hartson.

I was wondering about the newly independent nations and I'd agree with Czech Republic. They've had amazing players and made the Euro 96 Final, yet no World Cup.
True. The UK has had some great players (Charlton, Banks, Gascoigne, Best, Beckham, Lineker, Rush, Giggs) yet no WC!

Wales qualified and made it to the quarters in 1958 where Brazil knocked them out...

I agree with the Czech Republich and the Ukraine as good choices when you take into account their circumstances.

Otherwise I'll go with Ghana too.

Wales qualified in 1958. This was the only world cup in history where all 5 home nations made the finals.

The United Kindom dosent have an international football team so you carnt add them to the list.

While I suspect that ClashCityRocker was going for humor, this is still useful information to keep in mind next time the Olympics roll around and someone asks, "how did England fail to qualify with all those good young players." The reason Michael Owen didn't and Wayne Rooney isn't going to lead England to Olympic Gold is that England competes in the Olympics as Great Britain.

Anyway, as to the question, I may as well vote for India as the World Cup sleeping giant.
