I'm a Yank looking for a good footy mag to read here in the States. Which should I go with: FourFourTwo, World Soccer? Which ones are the best and are readily available in the States? Thanks for the help.

FourFourTwo is primarily British. I would suggest World Soccer if you have an interest in more than just the Premier League. One drawback to World Soccer is that it contains a lot of tables/results from around the world that are readily available on the Internet before you get the mag.

World Soccer gives an excellent broad view of the sport. It profiles up and coming players etc. I always find something interesting in each issue even though I visit soccer websites daily.

    Two, actually.

World Soccer is by far the best mag, but FourFourTwo has excellent writers as well.

On the internet, Soccernet is the best, closely followed by Planetfootball and BBC Sport. If you can read Spanish, Mediotiempo.com is excellent.

If you're interested primarily in American Soccer, I would suggest Soccer America, otherwise, go for World Soccer.

It's a young magazine...you've got to give it a chance to improve. I enjoyed their feature on the American guy coaching in England.

Is World Soccer available all over the world? If so, is it called World Football or something outside of the U.S.?

To my knowledge it is called World Soccer worldwide since there's no confusion about what soccer is. Football is one thing in the USA, something else in Australia & New Zealand and something else in Europe. Soccer eliminates the confusion.

I subscribed to "When Saturday Comes," a British-based monthly that purports to have a more intellectual, ironic take on football. I've only read one issue so far and it was pretty good. Kind of dry reading, to be perfectly honest, but some interesting features, and no filler. It also focuses pretty exclusively on the English scene, though it has features on the Nationwide and not just the Premiership. I am waiting to read a few more issues before I regret shelling out for a subscription. From what I've heard, World Soccer may have been a better choice.

    Re: World Soccer editor interview

I found his answer to your question here a little evasive if not a bit obnoxious:

I was going to post recommending WSC but i decided not too. Firstly because I didn't know if was avaible in the US, and secondly becasue I believe WSC is an acquired taste. To be honest if you don't like after reading the first issue you probably want ever like it, but I could be wrong as usual.

I have a question : Does anybody find World Soccer ( same name in all countries) dull ? I find most of the articles flat and very descriptive, though some of the columnists are interesting.

442 really is the best the magazine out there, which says alot about the current market because 442 is hardly top notch stuff. In England we use to have a number of quality non specific footie mags, but only 442, WSC and WS remain due to the increase in magazines dedicated to just one club. I read a while ago that the Official Manchester United Magazine is the widest read magazine in Britain, if not the world. Which sucks.

Being a relative newbie to the world football scene, I had no idea that individual clubs had their own magazines. How can one get these magazines in the States? What's Liverpool's magazine like? BTW, the widest read magazine in the States is TV Guide, so don't feel too bad.

Unfortuntatly I think you maybe about 5 years to late. IIRC the Liverpool magazine was launced around 1995 or 1996 and lasted about 10 or 12 issues , then disappeared. By all accounts you were'nt missing much, there simply wasn't enough Liverpool news to make the magazine readable. Most of the single club mags have dissapeared, with only Man U and Man City mags now availble where I live.

Best going on the Liverpool forum on BS and asking if the fanzines or match day programmes are avaible in the US.

Yes, I found it dull. Some of the information are not very accurate. For example, if you are from England, you probably know more about English football than what was covered in the magazine.

However, it has the best overall view of the game around the world.

The articles from 443 are more interesting in terms of writing style, but its focus is primarily on UK. I am not interested in most of the articles.

I live in Alabama and Barnes & Noble carries the Manchester United magazine. I'm sure you could find it in LA if you're interested in club specific magazines.

That's weird. I've never seen the official Man U magazine here in LA. I can find FourFourTwo and World Soccer, but nothing on individual teams. Maybe I should keep looking.

my personal favorite is fourfourtwo. they do enough world coverage to keep it interesting and i like the focus on smaller aspects like the celeb fan articles. i always pick one up if i see a new one on the stands. just like the format and the articles.

Wasn't a BBC reporter said Santos of Brazil are as good as Brighton from Division 1?

    Nice positive information there.

I'm not disputing this latest outburst of anti-English crap from you pololo but it would be nice if you could provide a link or some sort of evidence to back up this claim. Otherwise it looks like you're just talking rubbish again.
