team.........games...........GA...points ARGENTINA 11 6 4 1 21 .....11 +10 22 2 BRASIL 11 5 5 1 19........ 11 +8 20 3 PARAGUAY 11 4 4 3 12... 11 +1 16 4 ECUADOR 11 5 1 5 12 .....11 +1 16 5 URUGUAY 11 4 2 5 16 ....23 -7 14 6 COLOMBIA 11 3 4 4 12... 11 +1 13 7 PERU 11 3 4 4 13 ..........13 0 13 8 CHILE 11 3 4 4 10 .........11 -1 13 9 VENEZUELA 11 3 1 7 13 ..16 -3 13 10 BOLIVIA 11 3 1 7 11..... 20 -9 10 we have 11 games, and LOOK at the goals allowed per team! who has the best defense in 2004?
well its not peru, uruguay, venezuela or bolivia so i guess its one the other 6 id take argentina zanneti samuel ayala sorin heinze collocini
but the stats put six teams at the same level! for debate: colombia claims the best defender(their wkly points system) in the spanish 1st division! Argentina claims the most expensive player with real Madrid! hard call? even Olarra has chile in the run for 4th place!
well then you have to look at each game and see how the defence peformed just because they have only 11 goals against dosnt mean they are solely responsible for the low scoreline maybe the teams they faced had a bad night in front of goal and just couldnt finnish
wasn't uruguay the stingiest defense in the last WCQ with pasarella as coach? now they have the worst defense if one considers the amount of goals they gave up....peru's defense is pretty bad and so is bolivia's i would think paraguay still has the best defense because they are in every game and have less offense to rely on then say a team like argentina....colombia is pretty good too
ecuador without any mayor stars on the back and with a keeper that isnot out this world has only 11 in 11 games. Imagine, if clombia had not had the catastrophic result in la paz: 4-0 you have to count out argentina and brazil, with that many points you will like to think that they do not gave up as many goals as #8 in at the yrs end! paraguay = gamarra y paredes (valga la redundancia solida)
i disagree. Hurtado is as steady, realible and consistant as any of the best. I'd admit, la sombra espinosa is not always up to the task, but when he is at his best, he is immoveable. and villafuerte, cevallos successor, shut out brasil! that's got to say something, he also shut out chile! and he made some brilliant saves and has good instincts.
... and Chile shut out Argentina in that 0-0 in Santiago. Does that mean Chile has a good defense? Probably not. Yes, Ecuador didn't let Brazil score last time, but Ecuador also let Bolivia score 2 in Quito a few games back. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have to look at how your team has done defensively all throughout the qualifiers and not just based on a couple of games. IMHO, Paraguay could be the most consistent, but even they conceded 4 (or 5, I don't remember) in the first round of qualifiers.
yeah peru scored 4 against the paraguayan defence bolivia scored 4 past colombia we got scored 3 times by the argentinians
that game against bolivia was when Super Chinto was playing, who is a decent keeper, but shouldn't play on the national team. anyway, i think the best defence is Argentina.
No "MAYOR" stars? hmm....Ivan Hurtado is a very skillful defender and hardly ever gets carded (hasn't got even 1 yellow in the whole tournament) and he has good pace and has emassed over 120 caps at just 30 years old. He has got tonnes of experience and he has had solid games in just about all 11 of em. I think If Bolivia didn't have Leonardo Fernandez, they'd be the worst defensive team, but I gotta say VEnezuela has the worst. But all are half-decent but Argentina's is the best I'd say followed by probably Ecuador or Brazil. Villafuerte is showing a lot of promise.
