I was just thinking, and this question popped into my head:

Who do you think is the best dead-ball situation player in Major League Soccer this season?!

ronnie o'brien has had a few nice FK's, hasnt he?

Christian Gomez has had some well-struck swerving corners, but hasn't really had enough of a chance from shooting range.

    derby u.k.
Donovan, yes I know it's not an imaginative choice but he hits them with pace, dip and bend, and, often into an area which makes the keeper unsure whether to come or let his defenders deal with the ball. The area also happens to be where attacking players are running in.
Also Dorman has produced some great free kicks this year. I'm not talking about direct shots with either of these players but they both put in some really tough to defend crosses.
As a direct shot, Buddle, remember the Fire goal last year?

Zach Thornton would beat out Hi-me Moreno, in my opinion.

On past performance it should be Djorkaeff, but I haven't seen anything like what he's capable of. Likewise Kreis and Mathis who can both hit em.

I guess I'd have to say Kirovski.

Or if you count PKs, Ruiz is pretty solid from the spot.

Jovan Kirovski, I havent seen Ronnie O, Brien take a FK yet but I did see his goal against the first meeting against Chivas , absolutely brilliant, the ball swerved right into the upper 90,

Buddle's shot was great but the thread started asked about this year.
    I'll go with Guevara

Who's going to be the first to mention Adu? I guess it's me!

They don't score on the dead balls... but they are both extremely accurate.

I'd have to say Preki or Simion Elliott is not bad either. Preki does'nt get much of a chance these day's because he's alway's on the bench but i remember a couple of season's back and he was pretty good.

We call them dead ball specialists in England....but I'm not sure if they have a specific term like that here?

Man , so few people are truly scary in MLS when it comes to free kicks.... One aspects players should try working a lot harder in practice, or better yet, as kids....

Yeah, if you can beat Joe Cannon three time in one match including 22 yard one-time blast and a PK-you got my vote!

    1) Brad Davis

    2) Amado Guevara

    3) Clint Mathis

    4) Richard Mulrooney when healthy.

    5) Landon Donovan

Below is a link to a neat story from the US soccer website highlighting the mad skilz of Brad Davis schooling the likes of Landon Donavan and Bobby Convey in the art of striking a free kick.

Here is a snippet from the link. "The highlight of the long session came at the end, as midfielder Brad Davis schooled teammates Bobby Convey and Landon Donovan in the art of the free kick. The Dallas Burn midfielder repeatedly bent the ball over a stationary free kick wall and into the upper corner past goalkeeper Doug Warren to a smattering of "oohs" and "ahhs" from those in attendance, including a group of kids who were trying to steal Nike balls through the fence behind the goal. At one point, U-23 MNT assistant coach Thomas Rongen stood behind the wall and poked his head out between two of the fake players' heads, daring David to hit him. Davis did exactly that, blasting a ball that caused Rongen to rush over to the team medical staff complaining of a broken pinkie finger as the team roared with laughter."
