Morrison, Keane, Duff, Keane, Delap, Reid, Finnan, O'Shea, Cunningham, Carr, Given. That'd be my team, I'd rather we recalled Terry Phelan then have Ian Harte in the first team. I'd have Partridge in right wing if he secures a first team spit at Liverpool (He's blatantly good enough) or gets a move to either Coventry or probably some mid table premiership side. Between him, Reid and Butler our right wing position will be quality for the next 10 years at least imo.
That's crazy, playing Shay Given as a lone striker. I suppsoe there'd be the inital element of suprise having Given running around infront of the opposing goal in his black Jersey. Also we'd be very suceptible to the counterattack with just Keane and Morrison at the back.
I'd bring back Denis Irwin just so he could be Roy Keane's room mate!! BTW, what's happened to Butler at Sunderland? Here ya go for me: Given Carr-O'Shea-Cunningham-Finnan Delap-Keane-McAteer-Duff Morrison-Keane I'd think McAteer would be great in the middle of the park along with Keane. Sure, they probably hate each other but I think it would work.
an outsiders view if you care given finnan cunningham o shea harte (provided he gets his %$&# together!) reid keane holland duff morrison keane
Andy O Brien deserves a chance and R. Keane is not coming back How about Given Carr Cunningham O Brien O Shea Finnan Delap Holland or Carsley Duff Keane Morrison
Given Carr Cunningham O'Shea Finnan McAteer Delap Keane Duff Morrison Keane This is my team, but even there I have a couple of reservations. 1. Ian Harte has gone downhill so fast that I have Finnan at left-back. Now while I realise he is a good defender, He's a right-back by trade and that upsets the balance of the team a bit, but what can you do? I hate playing players out of position. When there wa sa glut of left-backs (Staunton, Irwin, Phelan) this looked like it would never be a problem, but all good things must come to an end (Who said that? Why can't good things go on for ever??). 2. McAteer gets in because of lack of credible competition. Not the best player, in my opinion, but until Reid and/or Partridge make the breakthrough at the highest level, his experience gets him in. Lee Carsley's exploits on the right side of Everton's midfield don't disguise the fact that he's really a central midfielder. 3. Delap's in on current form, I just hope he carries it on. His conversion from a wing-back at Derby to a central midfielder at Southampton seems to have worked well, hopefully he's found his position after being switched around a lot in his early career.
Butlers injured, he keeps picking up little injuries, very unfortunite for the lad, hasn't even trained under Wilko yet, bit of a nightmare.
why do people persist with clinton morrison? surely his performances with birmingham prove he's not up to international football. given carr, cunningham, o'shea/dunne, finnan reid, delap/carsley, healy, duff keane, lee (he deserves a shot)
Because nobody would score in that side and he's still their top goal scorer and has been outstanding in all of his Irish caps.
morrison is not their top goal scorer this season - avery john is with 7 (ok, 4 were in cup games) against morrison's four - liverpool (2), villa and sunderland. i agree that he's in a bad side but to say he's been outstanding for ireland is a gross exaggeration - i'd say he's varied between awful-adequate-quite good (at times) slash, i respect you opinion but we debated this at length over xmas and i can't see either of us changing the other's opinion - only clinton can do that (oh, how i would love to be proved wrong!!!!!) so we should just agree to disagree. ok?
Kiely ----- Carr Cunningham Dunne O'Shea -------- Finnan King Roy Delap ------- Reid Keane Duff ------- 4-3-3 with a tight midfield. The front 3 can supply the width. Play both Reid and Duff in the old style inside forwards come wingers and not as wide attacking midfielders. Reid has proven that he has a knack for goals so we may be ok in the goalscoring department even without a natural out & out striker in the team to partner Robbie. Jonah
Well, I was talking about the league. Either way, I feel Morrison is the only striker we have who can partner Keane, he needs a poacher beside him, not a target man he's never worked with one barring one goal. We'll agree to disagree on his ability, but once more I'll draw up the comparisons between himself and Bellamy at Coventry and hopefully someone as smart as Robson takes him and we'll see his true ability.
