www.deepdiscountdvd.com Free Shipping and low cost. The shipping is the cheapest one tho, but if you gots the cash then you can pay for express delivery. Any other suggestions?
I need instant gratification. I cannot buy DVDs through the mail. I need to see the case and look it over real good and look at everything else in the store before I make a decision. My somewhat methodical madness for buying the cheapest DVDs: Blockbuster movies the first week of their release: Sam's Club or Target. Sam's is way cheaper, but the selection is limited. Target, while also with limited selection (though better than Sam's,) usually runs specials cheaper than most on new release blockbuster DVDs and probably about a buck or two more than Sam's. Second tier in popularity during the first week after release: MediaPlay (Suncoast.) They seem to have the best selection, but they are a bit more expensive than your Targets/Best Buys/Circuit City's. If those places don't have what you're looking for, head to MediaPlay and get it there - with their reward program, it's worth the extra money if you can't find a movie anywhere else. MediaPlay is good about running specials on all new releases - usually for one week. Movies after the first week of release: Try Best Buy or Target first. If they don't have them, head to MediaPlay, but be warned - MediaPlay is usually a bit more expensive than the others but they more than make up for that in sheer volume and way better selection overall. Small release films and harder to find stuff: Barne's & Noble. They are far from the cheapest, but their selection of films is simply second to none when it comes to Criterion Collection and the likes. If you can't find something at MediaPlay, try here. They'll almost always have it if it's available. DO NOT go here for blockbuster movies or for new releases. They simply are not there for that service.
http://www.dvdplanet.com is cheaper if you pre-order. It's more expensive for movies that are already shipping.
www.dvdpricesearch.com Don't trust some of the sites though. They're rated on the classic 5 star system.
ebay is good too if you dont mind the risk involved. I just got 2 sealed criterions (rashomon and Seven Samurai) and a sealed the bad sleep well for only 35 bucks which includes shipping.
Half.com (owned by eBay) is also good if you don't want to mess with bidding. Also: Online - Amazon consistently has good prices and has free shipping for $25 and up. Not as cheap as the discount places but the selection is huge and it's still better than most other online vendors. Offline - If you can be patient, Virgin Mega Store has a sale every month or two and prices on second-tier movies usually get slashed. A couple of months back, they were having a 2-for-$30 sale and also had "Pi" and "A Requiem For A Dream" bundled. I ended getting those and "Glengarry Glenross", 3 DVDs in total for $30.
I mostly try to wait on anything popular until the rental stores begin selling off their extra copies as "Pre-Viewed" movies. That usually keeps the prices in the $8.99 range, and they often even have sales off that price. For rarer stuf, I like half.com and ebay. Two years ago, I also joined Columbia House twice and got a bunch for about $10 each.
