I'm not talking about someone you've met a time or two or kind of know, I'm asking what is the best band that has someone in there you actually hang out with? I know we aren't going to have heard of most people's choice, but I figured someone may suprise us with a big band. As for me, I would give the nod to Plate Six. I've been friends with the drummer since art class in college. They are currently recording a cover of "Day of the Lords" for a Joy Division tribute album. www.platesix.org
Bad Religion Superchunk Thunderball plus numerous people I'm on a first name basis when they're in town.
Does it count if we're only friends with one person in the band, yet don't know any of the other people?
If so, then Afghan Whigs Shag Reverend Horton Heat Murder Junkies Throneberry Brainiac. (Well, actually, I'm not friends with that guy anymore.) If not, then Just Afghan Whigs, Shag, and Throneberry.
He doesn't live here anymore. Besides, I only know Greg from coming into the bar when he's home for Christmas or some other reason he comes back (and they used to play there back when they were called The Black Republicans.) It's Rick that I know the closest. He's very good people. Greg, on the other hand...
if we're talking about once upon a time and not right now, then the three most popular would be the Breeders (well, he was only with them for a couple of albums) or Sebadoh or Pavement. And pretty much any indie-rock band from Louisville or with girlfriends or boyfriends or side pojects from Louisville.
Splender Larry Mitchell Sepultura (they're friends with a friend, but we all hang out when they're in NY) Overdose Tomati (the Paul Shaffer to Brazil's David Letterman) Kx I used to be friends with the wife of one of the guys in Dream Theater. One of my friends (& my husband's bandmate) is good friends with Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard.
I hung out with him in Atlanta once. He had a girlfriend in my city and I took her a present for him. Nice guy.
Green Day used to practice in my brothers garage, and my bro is still pretty good friends with Billy's significant other.
Tears of Frustration -relatively popular in the NYC/NJ Hardcore scene (broke up a couple years ago). Most Precious Blood (formerly Indecision) -I'm really only friends with the singer and I'm acquanted with the guitarist. Shutdown -Shutdown is the most popular but also the guys I knew the least. It was more like my friends' friends who I hung out with quite a bit.
McRad Scram - Don't know if these counts; I only knew them from hanging 'round at the Univ. after their shows. (Eric in particular I'm friendly with..) Pretty Poison - They appeared on my show (radio show) once. Jade & Wey are pretty cool folks.
Well I know some or all of the following bands, some better than others: Lemonheads Big Dipper Vampire Lezbos ...plus various members of like a dozen other New England area bands, all from like 10 years ago, and a few in Denver... but those 3 are probably best known.
i think some folks have kind of missed the point of the thread. i'm not talking about people you've met once or twice, i'm talking people whose home phone number or cell number you have and you hang out.

www.commonrotation.com Adam and I met while working on Buffy and became friends after I went to one of his shows.
Atouk, a DC United fan, who goes all over the place to support the USMNT, is Travis McNabb's brother. Travis is the drummer in Better Than Ezra.
