If the owner really wanted to move away from that original Firefirgter Badge crest concept then their FO sthoulda just kept it simple. Keep that "C' from the middle of the original crest and slap it on a red shield with Chicago on it. Or with this new oval crest, which is ok, but the mirror crown image and addition of Utah gold color is for the birds. If they want that mirror image concept than just take your city's famous skyline on a red n white shield. Stamp Chicago Fire on it. This took few a minutes up here at work. That gold does harken to Utah or at least the Arizona sun and State Flag design. Not Midwest Chi-town.
Well, I suppose recent events have changed my mind. Chicago is now firmly in the Bottom 5, moving Houston into the dishonorable mention slot and Dallas joins the murky middle. Very unfortunate that this is blemishing an otherwise admirable transformation process in Chicago.
The new Fire crest is an abomination. It is an embarrassment to the Fire and to Chicago (and we have had enough to be embarrassed about lately), but, just as importantly, it is an embarrassment and and affront to MLS as a whole. Sign the petition, please. http://chng.it/VD2c6fSFpy Note, I had nothing to do with the petition, but I think it is one of the few ways to put pressure on MLS and the Fire to change this abomination.
I might change my mind tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, but as of now... 1. DC United 2. Toronto FC 3. Columbus Crew 4 Cincinnati 5. Nashville SC I will say that NSC's relation to "sound" wasn't obvious to me for a while, but now it is. Plus, it's simple, and I like the colors. Wish they had a really bold, sans serif shirt sponsor to go with it, but it is what it is.
It's a bank. https://www.renasantbank.com/ edit: I see you already got that info in the other thread.
Yeah. And really, my stronger complaint is that it's regional. Not national. I had to look up said bank. It's in Mississippi and serves TN and a few other states.
In my opinion, the top five crests in MLS (random order) currently belong to Columbus, Cincinnati, LAFC, Minnesota, and Toronto. As for the bottom five crests in the league (again, in random order) at this time, they adorn Chicago, DC, Kansas City, New England, and San Jose. If pressed, I'd tab Minnesota's logo as the absolute best, with the newly unveiled Chicago badge as the bottom of the barrel. Other random thoughts: * All three of D.C. United's primary logos to date have been amongst the most overrated in professional sports. While the design of the current badge is - in terms of execution - far better than the glorified clip-art original, none has struck me as an outstanding example of sports branding. When the central device of your crest is a poorly-rendered eagle that ranges from looking like a piece of National Socialist iconography to resembling the ornamentation on the hood of a Pontiac Firebird, you really don't have much to celebrate design-wise. * Much of Major League Soccer's club branding occupies a vast mid-range of "meh". In other words, most of the MLS teams sport badges that aren't particularly terrific or terrible. Just... "meh". * While Anthony Precourt's stewardship of the Columbus Crew - particularly the machinations he undertook to attempt to relocate the club to Texas - earned him every bit of the scorn heaped upon him, I must admit that - from a design standpoint - both the new crest he introduced in Columbus and the mark he unveiled in Austin strike me as being well-designed. I find the Crew's roundel badge to be a vast improvement over the team's original logo. As for Austin FC's shield, a simple tweak to the mark (coloring the letters F and C white, rather than green) might actually lift it into my top five MLS club crests.
It’s been pretty soundly reported that PSG’s involvement in the current Crew crest was only approving it. It was developed internally my staff hired before the takeover and presented to the new owners. But, still, he said yes. And it is much, much better than the original.
I always thought that in terms of branding this was one of the best logos in the league because it was instantly recognizable. Although it picked up a lot of heat through the years there were many people even outside the US that loved the logo. Alas we went away from it and i have to say that the new Columbus crest has grown on me over time. Despite it being colorful, i always though this was one of the poorest crests in the league. There was nothing in it that was particular to the local team and it didn't give the MLS team its own identity. All it said was "we are the developmental squad of a bigger team that plays somewhere else." It could have worked had the crest been played around with to change a few of the elements and give the team more of an identity.
I also mourn the death of the classic Fire logo. That logo had tradition dating back to 96 and some of the greatest players in us soccer have worn a shirt with that logo. I don't really understand the argument that the team had too much stink on it and a new beginning was necessary. The only antidote that was needed was putting in a winning mentality, not necessarily changing the whole team identity. Anyway--the change happened and i dont expect things to go back. All I'll say is that the new Fire logo is worse than the old WWE scratch logo. It looks like the concept for it was drawn up by an 8 yr old.
Apologize for the brainfart....i've been watching the league since it started. Sometimes these things mix together in my mind. I will miss that classic Fire crest though...
it was not adopted for the same reason they don't have a SSS. the team has a football owner who really don't care enough to do anything extra for his soccer team
